I recently went through and organized my music library on my QNAP NAS and linked the folder to PLEX so that I can stream anywhere I have access.
I have my music organized (examples below) as:
0-9/Artist starting with number/Album Title/Song Title
A/Artist starting with letter A/Album Title/Song Title
B/etc…
C/etc…
I let PLEX sync up overnight and for the most part everything looks great however there are several songs from 2Pac which have been created as their own artist in PLEX. I have the main 2Pac with all albums then I have several 2Pac Feat. Artist name and 1 2Pac and Outlawz. Scrolling through I also found some other artists that have additional folders created for works with other artists as well.
When I look at the music file and select info from what I can see everything appears correct. The additional artist is not in the path. /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/Music/0-9/2Pac/Still I Rise/(15) - Yall Dont Know Us.mp3
I am looking for the best way to correct this at the NAS so if I ever create this folder again on PLEX it comes through the same each time.
Use the embedded meta tag ‘Album Artist’.
All tracks/albums which are stored underneath a particular ‘Artist’ folder need to have an identical ‘Album Artist’ in their metatags.
Notice that there is a difference between ‘Album Artist’ and ‘Artist’ metatags, so you can still write “2Pac feat. X” into the ‘Artist’ tag. But the ‘Album Artist’ should only contain “2Pac”, so that all those tracks are appearing under 2Pac in your Plex library.
I realized that my PLEX app was not the latest REV so I updated it and everything is working great! There were a handful of artists or albums that showed up in Unknown so as a quick fix I downloaded those folders to my Apple Music on my Macbook Pro, adjusted the metadata and uploaded the new folders to QNAP and viola!
