Plex works fine remotely but not locally

Server Version#: 1.21.3.4046-3c1c83ba4 (latest)
Player Version#: latest

Hello everyone !
I installed plex some time ago and then didn’t take care of it anymore, so I’m new here.

Don’t hesitate to correct me if my post is not suitable

I’ve been working on it again recently and I’m having a problem:
The plex server is up to date with the latest
version that I could find and runs on my computer under windows 10.
This one is wired to my box using a CPL.
My box is a mini 4K freebox.
I added the redirection of port 32400 to my computer and remote access is validated.

I can access the plex server from my computer that hosts it and access the parameters.
I can only access it on localhost:32400, it doesn’t work on 192.168.0.43:32400.
On my phone (andoid) via the plex application of the playstore, I can access the movies and series I shared only if I’m in 4G, it doesn’t work on my wifi (the same network as my computer)
On a laptop on the same network it doesn’t work either.
It also doesn’t work on my firestick (same network too).

If you need any further information don’t hesitate to ask me

I’ve obviously searched and read many posts, without any result… Sorry in advance if I missed the answer :disappointed_relieved:

Thanks for reading me and sorry for my english, I used deepl

Check the network adapter on your Plex Server. Make sure it is configured as a private, not public, network.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Click on the Network and Internet icon.
  3. As you are using a wired connection, click on Ethernet.
  4. Click on the connection name on the right. In my case, it is named just “Network”.
  5. Turn on the desired option

Hi, thanks for your reply
My network adapter was already in private mode !
Could I provide you any further information to help ?

Is your server running on WiFi? If so, that might be the problem. Server’s don’t work well on WiFi. Switch to having it wired directly to your router.

Hi and thank you
Sorry I misspoke, my server is running on my computer wich is wired to my box using PCL.

Thats all the clients I tried (phone, firestick, other computer) wich can’t access the servers shared medias when they (WIFI) are on the same network of my server (WIRED) !

Quite likely How to Use Secure Server Connections | Plex Support

Hi and thank you for the link !

I take a look and tried different things following the instructions.
I also take a look at this Why can't the Plex app find or connect to my Plex Media Server? | Plex Support but no results.
I set the server secured connexions option to prefered

I’m able to access it using http://app.plex.tv and https://app.plex.tv on the computer (Wired) that hosts the server.

On another computer (Wifi) in https I’m getting "Unable to establish a secure connection with "PLEX".
And when i try to authorize unsecure connexions after the redirection to http I’m getting "PLEX" is currently unavailable.

Also, connecting to my server local IP (192.168.0.43:32400) on the computer that hosts the server give me “Your internet access is locked” and the windows problem solving found that sufshark firewall might block that access.
That is strange because surfshark isn’t running actually (and since few month). I didn’t found where i could disbale/customize that surfshark firewall so I added 2 rules to enable port 32400 in and out on my computer in windows firewall…

Thanks again

Look at the website of the manufacturer of that software. They might have instructions on how to remove it completely.

I looked at it and I didn’t found anything about their firewall !
I 've uninstall the complete surfshark vpn and now it works !
I’ll try to reinstall my vpn later…
I still don’t understand why it was blocking the connection when it was not running
Thanks again
