Since the update, the app is not displayed or centered correctly. I don’t see the left part of the screen
Yeah, mine does the same. Their app version does not account for overscan.
Same here…
Same for me
Same, would like an option to handle overscan.
Yeah, same here. Can I go back to old version… That worked?
That’s not ideal for sure, but out of curiosity is there a reason you haven’t disabled overscan on your TV sets? Just trying to gather data.
@Moussa I have no idea what you are talking about. I have never configured overscan on my TV. I only get this error with the plex app since the update
@withinpipo Overscan is a holdover from decades ago and I’m really not sure why modern TVs enable it by default. But it basically means that if you have it enabled you’re never seeing the full picture on your TV. This is also true for any channels you watch. Working around overscan is difficult as some users have it disabled (and have the full picture) and others have it enabled (and have part of the picture cut off). Designing around both situations is very difficult.
On a sidenote: you also only get a lower quality image for your games.
Your TV takes out a ~1040p image out of your 1080p game and stretches it back to 1080p
@Moussa I was able to fix it by changing my TV option. My TV was set by default to 16:9 and I had to disable it. Even automatic mode didn’t help. Now plex is fine. I need to get used to it now. Thanks all for your informations.
While true overscan is a relic from the days of the old CRT, the vast majority of low cost LED tv’s have overscan built into their circuitry with no method of disabling it. As an engineer myself, I can attest to the fact that designing for overscan situations is difficult, which is why you always utilize a 10% ‘margin’ around the perimeter of the screen to account for these situations. Virtually no app, video, game, or other content made for use on televisions places content on the very edge of the screen without employing a method in the code to shrink the content if needed.
The current problem with the XB1 version of the app will also be a problem with all other devices as this rolls out to other TV appliances. (Some more so than others - more people would have a Roku for example connected to a low cost screen than an XB1)
This is why if you insist on having the same user experience across all devices and platforms, you have to take into account the limitations on each platform and device. Otherwise, you develop for each system’s strengths.

Well, my modern TV is a 8 years old 720p with no overscan options.
So any update to a possible overscan option in the plex application?
We’re working on improvements around this area but I have no ETA at the moment. To clarify, whether the TV has overscan enabled or not is impossible for us to detect. We will be making UI adjustments to minimise the impact for those who do, but the best solution is for users to disable it on their TVs.

I just stumbled upon a setting in xbox that enables a border for apps if needed (in Display\Video settings). Seems like Microsoft actually sees overscan as an issue for other apps too. If xbox has a setting to defeat the overscan does Plex really need to detect whether or not the TV has overscan enabled? Can’t you just add a border to prevent the issue and let the user decide whether or not to enable the border?
Yea that’s a part of the solution, but not the total solution. We’re working on something though, so hold tight.
Not to pile on here, but I too am having this problem on my 50 inch 720p Panasonic plasma. I’ve been through every setting in the TV menus at least 3 times tonight; no ability to disable overscan was found. I was through my XBox settings too, and did try toggling that overscan setting mentioned above. It seems like that can be used to determine if the TV needs the margins shrunk or not.
I’m happy to provide any more data needed to fix this. The new app seems to work much better and is a great improvement, but the GUI cropping is very disappointing.
Thanks!
never had a problem with overscan on the previous version - it was clean and easy to access.
the only problem with the previous version was maybe the speed of access
Moussa: Any update on this issue? Thanks for your time!
