Plexamp 3.0.0 for Mac won't open

Replaced Plexamp 2.0 with 3.0 but now get an error stating “The application Plexamp can’t be opened.” every time.

Running MacOS 10.15.4 Catalina.

The site was just updated again, does it work now? you may need to perform a hard refresh to get past your browser cache (hold shift and click the refresh button).

No worries! Thanks for letting me know

I just downloaded plexamp for the first time today (20 minutes ago) and getting the same error (10.15.3 Catalina)

Very same problem from France.

Downloaded, won’t start (with same error), doesn’t know what the "hard refresh "suggestion would do to an application not working on a local computer.

Hi @Klug and @brambo23, could you please post a screenshot of the error you’re seeing? The original issue of this post was the plexamp.com site was linking to the wrong installer file, which is what the website update resolved.

Hello.

I have just downloaded the file (from the website) to another computer (Catalina too).
Same issue.

Plexamp_3_0_0_for_Mac_won_t_open_-Testing___Plex_Labs-Plex_Forum-_Mozilla_Firefox

In both case, the new Plexamp 3 replaces the previous Plexamp that was installed on the computer.

What solved the issue for me, was using another program then the Apples standard program to unpack the archive.

I just tried that. Looks bad.

% unzip Plexamp-3.0.0-mac.zip
Archive: Plexamp-3.0.0-mac.zip
End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not
a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the
latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on
the last disk(s) of this archive.
unzip: cannot find zipfile directory in one of Plexamp-3.0.0-mac.zip or
Plexamp-3.0.0-mac.zip.zip, and cannot find Plexamp-3.0.0-mac.zip.ZIP, period.

So I downloaded it again (curl) and tried to unzip it again

% curl https://plexamp.plex.tv/plexamp.plex.tv/desktop/Plexamp-3.0.0-mac.zip --output Plexamp-3.0.0-mac.zip

Still bad.

If it’s of any help. I was using Keka to unpack the file.

Hi again @Klug and @pf_Morpheus,

I’ll investigate what’s going on there. In the meantime, could you try this direct link?

https://plexamp.plex.tv/plexamp.plex.tv/desktop/Plexamp-3.0.1.dmg

I downloaded the 3.0.1 zip (yes, there’s a 3.0.1 zip on your server).
Same problem with the ZIP file (bad format), and same problem with the app if I unzip it with OSX’ integrated archive tool (cannot open).

The DMG archive is OK and the app inside too.

Hi @Klug,

The site uses a small bit of JS to get the latest installer from where the build server puts it. The .zip file on this server isn’t intended for users to download.

If you go to plexamp.com now, are you still getting the .zip file when you hit the download button, or are you getting the .dmg file? If you’re still getting the .zip, it means the JS is failing. Could you post a little more info here so we can sort out the issue? To start with browser (and version), OS version, and if you’ve disabled JS, that’s helpful to know as well.

The JS on plexamp.com website does redirect to the 3.0.1 DMG (while it’s still 3.0.0 on the page).

When I downloaded the 3.0.1 ZIP, it’s not the JS that redirected me.
I just tried (with curl) to download it and it worked (even if the ZIP seems to be broken).
