Plexamp 4.11.0 won't launch

Server Version#:1.40.3.8555-fef15d30c
Player Version#:4.11.0

Hello, I need help with my plexamp, it’s not launching anymore, it’s the last update that’s killed it I think, as it was working perfectly before. The computer is a 2012 mac mini with macOS Catalina. Am I the only one having this problem ?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Same issue here. Same Mac mini 2012/Catalina system configuration. The 4.11.0 update killed it. I can pull the previous version from a Time Machine backup and it runs fine.

Not quite sure if 4.11 might have some dependencies which require a newer version of macOS (keep in mind that Catalina support by Apple has also ended some 1.5 years ago).

What error message do you get if you run Plexamp from the terminal?

  1. Open Finder and navigate to /Applications
  2. Select Show Content from the context menu of the Plexamp.app item
  3. Navigate to Contents/MacOS
  4. Open the Terminal app
  5. Drag the Plexamp executable from the Finder window (#3) into the Terminal Window and press Return to execute it

This is no different from running the app, so it won’t succeed – but you should get a more specific error message about what’s causing it to fail starting.

Thanks a lot, this is what I get from the terminal :

Main: restoring window state from /Users/david/Library/Application Support/Plexamp/window-state-plexamp-main.json
Started Media Service: true
Error: Render process (Plexamp) crashed (11) :frowning:
Quitting…

Any idea ?

Like David above, same issue and same errors in terminal.
First time ever that Plexamp don’t launch.
Intel MacBook Pro (2016)
macOS Big Sur 11.7.10

Possible to download a previous version of Plexamp?

Using a previous version is what I’d like to do, I downloaded the 4.10.1 at this adress : https://plexamp.plex.tv/plexamp.plex.tv/desktop/Plexamp-4.10.1.dmg

It worked, unfortunately, it automatically auto updated after the first use… Don’t know how to “block” the app in its current version…

Have you gotten a response from Plex? Are they aware and working on the issue?

Jumping in here. I had already started another thread on this issue.

I’m running on Big Sur (stuck here on an older iMac).

Plex guys: if it’s a surprise to you that it won’t run on older Mac OS X versions, why are you claiming it is supported on them? Was there testing?

I’m with you. I have a 2 TB NVME drive on my Mid 2014 15" MacBook Pro. There’s no way I could afford to spec a current 16 inch MacBook Pro with a 2 TB drive, so here I am. Since every single one of us is having the same problem, I’m surprised that no one on the development team attempted to open the new version on a Mac running Big Sur or Catalina. It’s not like it’s a hidden bug- the app just doesn’t open.

I don’t know how to turn off Auto Update, either. I thought I could keep the app open, but I keep forgetting and quitting and it auto updates. lol

Same problem here, but I’m using Plexamp 4.11 on Windows rather than Mac, so it doesn’t appear to be limited to one OS

I’m having the same issue. Running on macOS Catalina 10.15.7 and Plexamp 4.11.0 just crashes anytime I try to launch it. The Crash Reports on macOS are pointing to Plexamp Helper (Renderer) as what’s crashing. Looks like it uses the Electron framework, so it could be Electron related. Hope they can find a fix, or at least let us turn off auto update.

Plexamp download page still promises the application runs on Catalina and above, which they know to be untrue. This reflects poorly on the Plex team and their product suite.

Is it possible to know if a patch is on the way to restore compatibility with macOS Catalina and macOS Big Sur, suddenly broken with the release of Plexamp 4.11.0?

Try the release out today.

Ah yes! 4.11.1 seems to work just fine on macOS Catalina for me now.

Thank you, it works again. (Big Sur / Intel)
