It’s not going to happen. Along with Plex Companion support (remote controlling) not likely part of PlexAmp’s future.

Plexamp can already control other Plex clients. And being controlled will come back in. Only Elan knows when, but it will eventually.

There are countless things Elan has said are coming (in the same way he mentioned companion support) that have been missing now for 3, 5, 7 or even more, years. Given the feature was already there in a previous incarnation, the fact it’s not there now means it’s not a priority nor a design goal.

Sure, perhaps the feature wasn’t/isn’t at the top of the priorities list, but it’s definitely on the list. I’m using plexamp on a rpi as described here , control it from my android tablet, and did not notice a ssl deprecation, maybe you can use that version @danberndt ?
