PlexAmp 3.1.0 is a bit intrusive

3.1.0 seems to fire up every time I select the Bluetooth connection in my car, regardless if the app has been running or not. It then overrides whatever other player you want to use. You have to force play the other app to stop PlexAmp (which now sits in the notification area all the time)

This is on Android Mobile.

Thanks

Is this a change with earlier versions?

I’m not sure I know what change would have caused that, but if it behaves differently than v3.0 that would be a good data point.

Hey Elan,

Definitely a change since 3.0.

So if the app is not running (running in background??) according to the App switch section as soon as the phone Bluetooths to the car Plexamp spawns and starts playing where it left off. It then overrides what ever other app is using the Bluetooth. If you stop and play the other app Plexamp then stops.

Do you have an example of what other apps I can try to reproduce this? We are using the media session in accordance to the Android guidelines as far as I’m aware. This means if the system receives a bluetooth play command it will forward it to the last app that was registered with as having a media session.

This would align with the problem outlined is the other app isn’t registering a media session (i.e. the car sends a play command, the Android OS looks at the last media session and find Plexamp and forwards the play command to it).

Ironically its the Plex Android App that it seems to override the most. I use the Android App for Podcasts. So the sequence is:-

-Use Android App to listen to Podcast. Last thing playing when Bluetooth disconnected. Leave Car

-Get back in car, try to reconnect Bluetooth to Phone for Podcast. Doesn’t play, so manually start the Podcast in Android App (this happens all the time as well).

-After Podcast starts playing Plexamp then overrides the Plex Android App and starts playing. Hitting play on the Android App again stops PlexAmp and plays Podcast.

  • If Bluetooth reconnected to phone and don’t play Android App, Plexamp starts playing.

-Question…Why won’t the Android App auto reconnect if it was the last thing playing before disconnect?

Hope this helps

Ironically its the Plex Android App that it seems to override the most

Well, should be easy for me to test then :joy_cat:

I found some documentation that suggests we shouldn’t auto play if the app is in “car mode”, I will do some tests following these instructions with and without that flag and see if I can repro and if the system check for “car more” will allow me to easily fix it. Thanks for the steps!

Happy to help. Let me know if you need some more testing.

BTW I’m running the latest Android Beta as well, not release.

Im having the same issue. Any fix on this yet?

This is me as well. I just installed Plexamp on my phone and whenever I start my car, it fires up plexamp and starts playing the last song played. It overrides anything and everything… Iheartradio, Tunein, Google Play, Android Auto, etc.

The only time it doesn’t seem to take over is if I have rebooted the phone and hadn’t run Plexamp since the reboot. As soon as I run it once, it then takes control until the next reboot.

As much as I like having my tunes with me when I travel, this action is about to make me uninstall plexamp.

--------edit--------
this is using v3.2.1 of Plexamp on a Samsung S10e. Car is a volvo (not sure if that matters)

FWIW, none of the other apps have this “autoplay” problem

do you have the ability to send us a logcat off the phone after this happens?

It happens multiple times a day, so if you tell me where/what a logcat is, then I can send it.

I’ve PM’d you a link to try.

Similar experience here.

Only actively used Plexamp a very few times on my Android phone.
Until what problably was the update to 3.2, the app was as expected permanently shut down until it was intentionally launched by me.
But after the update to 3.2, Pleaxmp started to fire it self up randomly, cluttering the notification area. Luckily it was only a few times it did also start playing music, a couple of time even totally by itself while laying still on a table top.

With the update 3.2.1, this behaviour has decreased, but not fully disappeared.
Still a couple of times per day, Pleaxmp is started (luckily paused). But it has started playing as well.
Updating other apps through Google Play seems to be one triggering point (amongst others) for launching Plexamp.
In the changelog for 3.2.1 it was stated that random playbacks was fixed.

I would also provide logcat, if I’d only knew how.
Please send me instructions how to retrieve the logs and forward them to you for investigations.

settings, advanced, debugging

please send right after it happens

Settings > Advanced > Debugging.

Right after it happens, please share logs with me.

Attached logs are from clean installed Android Head Unit in my car. Usually Plexamp start playing (if queue is not played to end) when anything is playing in other apps and the device gets online. It happens for Plex library and Tidal alike. 2667745732145.zip (46.2 KB)

should be fixed in next update.

I’m wondering if this fix will also apply to the issue I have of PlexAmp firing up and autoplaying music whenever I reboot my phone.

I have not experienced the behaviors others have mentioned in this thread.

it should

When is the next update scheduled? I’m having the same issue with plexamp autoplaying on phone reboot.

Separate issue: Plex continues playing music when I close the Plex app and go home on my new Google TV chromecast. Keeps playing until you pick something else. I guess not the end of the world, but probably not intended behavior.

Also, I know this is probably more on Google’s end, but I’m wondering how the Google TV can aggregate from my Plex server, too. Searching for tv series and movies show me options to watch, but doesn’t see that I own it and have it on Plex. Really loving Plex in Google TV as a one-stop-shop with all my other apps/services and I’m hoping they play better together in the future.
