Plexamp 3.4.0 smart playlist inspiration thread

Today’s :plexamp: 3.4.0 update introduced smart playlist creation, and advanced library filters!

As far as I know, this is the first Plex app to allow nested filtering rules! It opens the door for some pretty fun stuff. Thought I’d share a couple of the filters I’ve been using, to hopefully offer some inspiration:

Unheard :fire:
Critically acclaimed albums I haven’t yet listened to, sorted by popularity, and saved as a Smart Playlist

90s alternative & indie
Albums released in the 90s where the album style is adult alternative, indie rock, or adult alternative/pop rock, and I haven’t listened in the last month

I’d love to see the kinds of filters other people get great results from! If you find anything particularly awesome, drop them in the replies below for the world to see :plexheart: let’s get a thread going!

I’m looking at track filtering right now. Looks awesome.
I would love to see an option to play a random artist and limit to ‘tracks by critic rating’ (or the “Popular Tracks” listed under each artist - lets say top 10)

and a smart playlist for:
random artist and ‘deep tracks only’ (ie those not on that top 10)

Any suggestions?

I must be dense as I am not sure how to begin creating a smart playlist in PlexAmp on MacOS. I am running 3.4.0 but it is not obvious to me how to begin constructing the definitions to create the smart playlist. I feel like I have clicked everywhere. Can you help?

i just added to the tutorial… scroll or search for filters.

@aubrey.wodonga GREAT playlist, i’m gonna steal that from ya
here’s mine… anything i’ve added THIS YEAR, that i’ve rated higher than 2.5 stars, and haven’t listened to in over a month.
edit: added filter for 12month period vs static date for rolling smartplaylist.

Just swinging by with a small contribution here; when you upgrade an album, the “Album Added” date is captured from the old album, so it doesn’t show up in a standard recently added albums view. If you want to see the new albums including upgrades, use the track’s addition date.

I like to have a smart playlist with music added in the last 6 months mixed with my favourite tracks. This works well for me:

nice one!

I rate tracks a lot and I wanted to make various smart playlists separating them a bit instead of always having one huge list.

So I make mood playlists. For example my highly rated happy songs:

And I do the same filter but with with angry music for a separate playlist. Etc. You get the point.

A post was split to a new topic: Plexamp on Raspberry Pi

If you save these filters as a playlist by going back to the filtered results will these me auto updating? I don’t see any mention of smartness on Plexamp (latest version) on macOS.

I would also love a drag 'n drop functionality to drop rules into groups of you decide to create groups later on in the process.

Thanks, Jan

Hi Jan! Saving the filters creates a smart playlist, which will automatically update itself if/when the list of eligible items changes.

Re. drag n’ drop, that’s good feedback, but might be better as a new thread to get a bit more visibility and input

I must be daft but I can’t find a way to change the filter for a already defined smart playlist in Plexamp for macOS. Can someone tell me if this is possible and how? Thanks

not yet editable, sorry

we were so excited to release the builder, we did so before we got the editing part hooked up.
