Plexamp 3.4.1: stuttering when using external audio interface on macOS

Hi there,

I wanted to report a weird bug that I’m experiencing with Plexamp 3.4.1 on macOS: when I set the output device to an external audio interface (Motu M2 in this case), the audio stutters constantly, in a very choppy fashion (don’t know how else to describe it). Playback is entirely fine via the built-in output device / loudspeakers or Bluetooth (AirPods) for that matter.

The really weird part: Once I start playback in a another application at the same time (for example Spotify), the stuttering goes away entirely. As long as I keep that second application playing (even with the volume turned down completely), the stuttering does not resurface. When I pause the other app (or close it) the stuttering reappears immediately though.

The issue only occurs in Plexamp 3.4.1, downgrading to 3.4.0 resolves the issue for now, but I thought you’d like to know.

Cheers!

Exact same thing happens to me. Im using an EDIROL firewire interface and, as soon as I get any notification alert from another program (which does sound correctly) Plexamp will start to make this cracking noise and it wont recover. The desktop Plex App does not suffer from this.

Same here!

reached out in a linked thread to see if we can figure out what’s going on.

@elan Can you share the linked thread? I’d like to contribute if I can.

should be fixed in 3.4.2.

@elan So far so good! I will keep testing.
