Plexamp ALWAYS Sweet Fades/Crossfades Album Tracks

Server Version#:1.42.2.10156
Player Version#: 4.12.4

When playing ANY album, whether using the play button at the top of the album or selecting the 1st track, the songs will crossfade and completely ruin the album listening experience.

I have yet to find a setting I can change to make this work. I have toggled Sweet Fades On and Off, restarted the app, my phone, all to no avail.

It does fade for playlists as expected, but albums are the problem.

This seems like baseline functionality paying customers should expect. What’s going on here?

Are the track listings complete for the album? Or are the track numbers non-contiguous, i.e. track numbers are missing, or don’t start with “1” etc.?

That does completely disable overlapping. But your track indexes are likely non-contiguous.

Is it logical that every album I have tried (100s out of 8500+) would have this same problem? The track listing on each shows correctly in the app and on the server. There could be something going on in the metadata but that just seems crazy that all of them have an issue. It doesn’t matter the source of the album - whether ripped CD, qobuz or bandcamp downloads.

Currently I’m listening via the desktop Plexamp, rather than the mobile version I left this post about. On the desktop, it is still trying to sweet fade the tracks - but - it can’t do it. The first songs ends, there is like a second of silence and then the next song starts at least 5 seconds in - as if it were faded…

If Plexamp can display all of my albums and tracks within those albums in numeric order, why can’t fades read from the same source? I then toggled sweet fades off in the Plexamp desktop app - it is still behaving the same as if it’s trying to fade and then starting 5-10 seconds into the next track. I restarted album play from the album play button after toggling off. This did not change the experience.

So, toggliing fades OFF seems not to be working on mobile or desktop - in my view that would mean as it states - off, never on. It still tries to fade everything (and on the phone app succeeds). Please assist!

Thank you,

Justin

Not to me!

Maybe post Plexamp logs so we can have some idea of what you’re seeing. Also make sure you have the STORE TRACK PROGRESS option set to OFF in your library.

Based on what you’re saying it sounds like it’s resuming the second track at an offset rather than fading.

Thanks for your help, Elan! I have attached logs from my most recent plays today starting around 13:19:00. Let me know if this shows something useful or if I need to send something different.

Random unexplanable aside: Plexamp on my phone seems to be honoring gapless playback with no sweet fade applied (it has been turned off for 2 days, so that is good).

That is a tiny snippet of log which doesn’t show anything useful, unfortunately. When uploading logs, upload the full logs.

Good to hear. If you disabled STORE TRACK PROGRESS that would have fixed it as well.

I just checked and Store Track Progress was unselected already in Plex Server (I don’t recall ever enabling it the past so I think it’s been disabled this whole time).

I have attached what is hopefully a more complete log file. Let me know if you need anything additional.

Thanks,

Justin

All your playback is remote, which sort of changes everything.

What are you playing/casting to?

Here are the ways I cast/apps I use (it seems like most of these use cases are remote, but I would think those done inside my home wouldn’t be using the remote connection - I could be wrong about that):

  • Android Pixel 8 to Chevrolet Trailblazer via Bluetooth using Plexamp
  • Android Pixel 8 casted to Google Chromecast using Plexamp
    • Also iPad Air used in the same way
  • Usage of the following apps on desktop and tv apps:
    • Desktop: Plex Server, Plexamp
    • Amazon FireTV: Plex App
      • At home, this will play without buffering
      • At my parent’s, using the same application, it take 5-10 seconds to buffer between tracks. Their network is 100mbp and mine is 1gig so we shouldn’t have problems there. Maybe something with the Remote Server?
    • Google Chromecast with Google TV: Plex App
  • Other Casting
    • Sonos
      • From Android Pixel 8 using Plexamp
      • From iPad Air using Plexamp
  • To deal with issues, I may switch on occasion to use the Sonos app connected to my Plex Server; sometimes that will avoid some of the issues I’ve been seeing (sometimes randomly, it seems) using Plex

Thanks again!

Justin

via Bluetooth

That will use the device’s sweet fade settings.

No sweet fade or Plexamp player involved

Totally Sonos player, Plexamp not involved in any fades

Thanks Elan.

What you mention for each of those is also my understanding of what to expect. I have not noticed the sweet fades issues outside of Plexamp. For example, Sonos has Crossfade, an entirely separate control in that app. I don’t recall having the fades issue on the cast app versions of Plex.

Any thoughts on that buffering issue? It would be great to just go from track to track immediately like expected. Again, I only notice this outside of my house when using a casting app version of Plex. I have tested this at two external locations and it seems to be consistently 5-10 seconds between switching tracks.

It makes me wonder if I have something set up incorrectly - though when I’m bluetoothing phone to car I am also “away” and Plexamp on the phone works well there, other than the fade issues I’ve mentioned.

Justin

Plex app and not Plexamp, right? If so, this is the wrong forum.
