PlexAmp and Functions need to make it perfect

I am really liking PlexAmp, but there are 3 functions missing and this would become a top app,

  1. Folder list, ability to go to a Folders to get to exact music directory location
  2. Random Play - a button just plays any random order from any mounted library.
  3. Adjust Volume by finger scroll touch up/down on Song Art

You can play randomly from a single library already via a smart playlist.

This is pretty specific :sweat_smile: Don’t the hardware buttons/OS controls work fine?

I would still love to have the Filter and Shuffle features built into Plexamp. I have used the radio functions (genre radio, mood radio, artist radio) and have used Smart Playlists, and the Mix Builder. All are nice, but all have their pros and cons.

The one major thing I have an issue with is that it seems when I use the radio feature and smart playlists they aren’t “random” enough. I continually see the same artists and albums appear while other ones never appear even though they are tagged appropriately.

Filter would allow me to select a combination of Genres (check Punk, Rock, Alternative, and Grunge) then shuffle ALL artists/albums under this Genre. Current in Plexamp the closest way to do this is to go to the web dash and create a smart playlist for every combination but that is labor intensive. Filter and shuffle combination you can perform that in seconds. PLEASE consider implementing this.

please make sure you’re running the latest server as we fixed a randomization bug very recently.

i’m not sure what “tagged appropriately” means. you need popularity data from our cloud for it to work in radio.

I prefer embedded tags because I don’t like some external service determining what is “Punk” vs “Metal” vs “Rock”.

Is it really that difficult to code these features into Plexamp?? I feel like a lot of people ask for them and they are already built into the standard Plex app so why not in Plexamp?

I have the most recent update to the server and it is better than it was, but still not perfect.

I’m sorry, I don’t understand what you’re specifically asking for here. The radio feature requires popularity data; otherwise, just use shuffle.

I would love to use shuffle if it existed. I want to shuffle everything under each tagged Genre.
For example Hard Rock as shown here:

I have had to create Smart Playlists for every combination of Genres that I would like to shuffle together and it would be easier if I could simply use check boxes to select Genres to play together (in combination) and shuffle.

Here is an example of my Smart Playlists:

  1. Check box selections to filter
  2. Shuffle what I filtered

in the next release you’ll be able to at least shuffle each genre directly (or style, collection, mood, record label, etc.) via library tab.

Thanks Elan! That will be great! The only thing missing would be the ability to shuffle combinations of Genres also. For example Alternative, Hard Rock, AND Metal (instead of one Genre by itself). Then it would be PERFECT.

Another thought I had was to implement this into the Mix Builder. Instead of selecting Artists in the Mix Builder, you could also select entire Genres.
