I use MediaMonkey to manage and play my music files and have recently pointed Plex to my D:/Music folder, I’ve also turned on the Sonic Analysis feature.
It appears Plex doesn’t grab any of my MediaMonkey song rating information which is a real bummer.
Does Plex Music and Plexamp keep all it’s own rating & Metadata or does it share some with the already existing mp3tags?
This has nothing to do with Plexamp. Before Plexamp can use any metadata, they have to exist in the database of Plex server.
Plex server currently doesn’t read any tags with a user rating.
Do you know if the one to five star rating would be in the mp3tag anyway, or is mp3tag info specific to the track (song/album/band) and wouldn’t not include ‘personal’ information as my individual rating?
I wouldn’t think my personal 1 to 5 star ratings of my songs would actually be written to the generic mp3tag in the mp3 file. I’d think this would be kept in some other file on my computer.
I know that there are embedded meta tags for exact this purpose.
And many users have already lamented the lack of support in Plex for these tags here on these forums.
But yes, Plex does store the rating only in its own, local database. It never does change the media files in any way, so it won’t write anything back into the metatags.
