May I ask for some clarification on how PlexAmp handles (reads/writes) RATING and PLAYS (Play count) of file embedded tags?
A/ Initial library import
Ratings:
1/Does PlexAmp import the embedded RATING tag when a song is added to the library?
2/What would be the appropriate NAMES for the tags, as different softwares use different names:
RATE, RATING, …?
PLAYS, …
3/What is the appropriate rating mechanism compatible with PlexAmp?
1-5 full stars with values: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
1-5 stars with half star values: 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5, 4, 4.5, 5
1-5 full stars with values: 20, 40, 60, 80, 100
1-5 stars with half star values: 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100
4/Plays:
-Does PlexAmp import the embedded PLAYS tag when a song is added to the library?
B/ Regular use of PlexAmp
1/ Once PlexAmp is being used to rate new songs or update the rating of existing songs, can these in any way be written back DIRECTLY by the server to the embedded tags in each file?
I am not talking about workarounds like grouping songs in smartlists then using some manipulation with third-party apps to rewrite the tags, but something built-in. I wouldn’t mind if this was a plug-in or script that could be scheduled to run on a regular basis, or even had to be run manually as long as it is using built-in functionalities.
Does anything like that already exist or is anything like that planned on your roadmap?
C/ Context (added at the end to keep key questions in the upper part of the post)
Like numerous people who have managed their music libraries over many many years, I have done a lot of painful manual curating and rating. As years go by, I however feel that many players tend to remove functionalities and try to capture people in their ecosystem. The non-portability of ratings are a good example judging by the huge amount of posts by people struggling with that.
I really want to give PlexAmp a chance, but I also want to make my music library independant of any player/system (as much as realistically possible).
I don’t want to invest in PlexAmp, just to find out that in 2 years time, should it no longer fit my needs, that again key information is trapped within the app and I cannot move to a different player without losing key information.
My only solution to that today is making sure that key information is embedded into my music files with the proper tags and I hope PlexAmp will support that.
