Plexamp & Android Auto

Using Plexamp 4.8.3 with Android Auto. Sounds good, but is considerably louder than my other music sources – so loud that it completely covers navigation announcements. I’ve adjusted the preamp setting to 0 db, with no noticeable change. (Did not notice any change when I switched it to +6db, either.) Did notice some sound quality degradation when switching on loudness leveler (slight) and a greater degradation when the limiter is on. No change in volume however. Would really appreciate a true volume cut within the PlexAmp app so I could use PlexAmp on out-of-town trips, where I use Navigation. (Navigation voice and PlexAmp are both output on same audio channel on my Galaxy S22+, so I can’t use the Android mix panel.) On my other music apps, the voice is slightly louder than my music app, creating a virtual “duck.” Many thanks!

Try switching between AAudio and OpenSL and see if it makes a difference. With loudness leveling and EQ off, you’re getting straight PCM out without any modifications.

Thanks for getting back to me so soon! I did not notice much difference on my phone or head unit switching/rebooting between AAudio and OpenSL. The AAudio sounded slightly reduced in bass and slightly accentuated in the treble, but I opened the EQ and adjusted those bands to taste (about 1 db each). Turning on the EQ also enabled the Equalizer Preamp Gain control, which allowed me to cut the overall preamp gain by about 5 db – VIOLA!

This adjustment provided the best compromise between being able to hear the navigation instructions and the music. A true duck and release (like used in Amazon Music or SiriusXM) would be preferred, but this Plexamp compromise is certainly workable.

A big thank you and blessed Yom Kippur (if you and any of your co-workers observe) to all at Plex Labs!
