Hello, I own an Android phone and I noticed that the sound was very low missing from the base and was basically very bad when I use the Plexamp application while directly via the interface the sound is perfect and strongly resembles the one that can be found on the music platforms. Would you be for what reason the sound is mediocre via the application? Is there any compression?
When I look at my dashboard I can see that via the web interface I am in 2Mbps FLAC via direct playback but via the PlexAMP application it does not display any information just that it is flac.
After a test under two computers window I see that there is a problem via Android
Shot in the dark but is the music quality in the plexamp settings set to maximum ?
Yes in PlexAMP i set maximum all settings
I also saw that some times it was necessary to increase the bitrate conversion that I put to 256 that to regulate the problem of the volume but the sound is always as mediocre
Okay, sorry. No idea so. Maybe have the plexamp logs ready if someone from plex requests them.
I have downloaded the logs if anyone needs them to send to him
If the volume is low, turn off Loudness Leveling.
Already done, I had to increase the bitrate conversion to make the sound louder but the quality is still very poor compared to the Windows App or directly via the browser
The bitrate has absolutely nothing to do with volume.
How exactly? Have you tried AAudio as well as OpenSL in audio interface?
Yes I tried both, it did not change anything the sound is mediocre with both
you have to kill the app after switching.
i don’t know what “mediocre” means in this context, and please provide more details about your device.
I have a Poco F3, when I say mediocre it’s because there is no bass, the highs are really missing it’s really a lousy sound, while when I go on the browser in remote access via my Poco F3 the sound is perfect at the level of Deezer Spotify etc. … On Windows the sound is perfect too it’s really just under my Android phone
I tested on TV Panasonic, Samsung, LG, Two Windows computers perfect but on my Android devices rotten iOS not tried
I changed some settings the sound seems to be ok, but the sound is very low compared to the Plex web browser even with the loudness leveling option disabled
What settings made it sound better? If the volume seems low on everything, Plexamp has a preamp in Settings → Playback if you want to test that.
What did you change?
Please don’t play with the preamp. It only works in conjunction with loudness leveling, which is the main thing that makes things more quiet (in order to normalize loudness).
I switched to OpenSL ES + 256Kpbs bitrate conversion but the volume remains low
Just to clarify again, conversion bitrate won’t make any difference to the sound. Loudness leveling is the setting you want. In addition, we’re investigating a report that on some devices, including the Poco, the volume is lower than it should be.
Okay, so can I reset the bitrate to the recommended value? Will you let me know when a patch is applied?
yes, you can reset.
if we manage to figure it out and it’s not an android issue, we’ll post about it in the release notes for sure.
