Plexamp Android, Issues with Large Box Sets

Server Version#: 1.41.0.8994
Player Version#: Plexamp Android 4.11.2

Hello. I’m not finding a lot of information on this, so I’m seeing if anybody can offer some insight.

I recently acquired the Bach 333 and Mozart 225 box sets. Each of these sets are huge. Mozart with 200 discs and Bach with 222 discs.

I scanned them in. All went well. Completed sonic analysis and loudness analysis, without a hiccup. Took about 3 days, but it finished without problem. Tags are all perfect.

If I open either of them up on Plex web, the tracklist loads and I can scroll through it and play the tracks. No issues. If I open either of them on the Windows version of plexamp, same, I can scroll through the tracks and play them.

However, when I try to open them on the Android version of plexamp, either while the tracklist is loading, or as soon as it populates, the app freezes and crashes. If I try to play the album without opening it, the tracks will play fine. I just cannot seem to be able to browse through the tracks without the app crashing.

There is nothing wrong with the files themselves, as they are browsable in other iterations of the app. It’s just the Android plexamp. I’ve tried restarting the phone, uninstalling and reinstalling the app, with no luck.

Has anyone else had this issue? Is the Android version just unable to handle albums of this size? Is this just a bug to be ironed out in a future update? Why does it work on Windows plexamp and on Plex web, but not Android? I’m at a loss here. What can I do?

I’m running Plexamp 4.11.2 on a Pixel 7, if that helps. Thanks and all the best.

Now this is a good report.

I suspect the issue is that these are being joined as a single album with hundred of discs (and thus thousands of tracks). That album page wasn’t really designed for that size of album, so you’re probably running out of memory or some such thing. I looked up your forum username and I didn’t see any crashes.

Is there another organization scheme which might be better for those?

It’s not ideal, I was hoping to keep it as one album (I’m a little nuts about my music organization), but yes, I wound up breaking the box set up into sections and they are all behaving normally. I get it, though. Why would you jump through fire to design a thing to work with a 200 disc box set when you can count on one hand how many even exist? No worries. Thanks for getting back to me. I love plexamp. It’s keeping me alive most days.

Appreciate the kind words and your understanding. Having separate albums also helps other sorts of things which are based on sonic/loudness analysis as well.

Could you spell that out? Like, what are the album titles and so on? It may help some of us who hit the same issue later.

Basically, I split them into their respective sections as they are packaged in the box set.

I also left their disc numbers as is, so that even though disc 50 is disc 1 of symphonies, it still is represented as disc 50 of the set.

Since the set is also chronological, I edited the sort value with numbers so that the albums, if sorted by name, appear in the order they are in the set.

Any specific questions?

Edit: I used Mp3Tag to edit the tags to reflect these sections as album names.

Makes sense, thanks!

You might find it helpful, having split the albums out, to group them under a collection.
