Plexamp bugs

I appreciate you talking the time to send an explanation, however the fact still remains that with the radio feature it obviously repeats the same albums over and over without touching other albums and plays songs from the same album too soon (within a page of the next tracks). Which is why I don’t like to use this feature.

Unless I’m listening to a specific album in it’s entirety, I will always use the standard Plex app and not Plexamp because I can’t stand how non randomized the radio features are currently.

I’m super happy that they are working on a true shuffle!! Smart play lists are cool, but too labor intensive if I want to include a lot of music in it.

Once again thanks so much for your help!

Happy to help, but I’m not sure I understand this, sorry. Radios are generated by the server, not the client. It shouldn’t matter which app you play the radio in, as the queue is coming from the server. Are you seeing different behaviour in other apps? If so, what differences are you seeing?

Well, I only have the option to perform the Genre Radio within Plexamp as the original Plex app doesn’t have the ability to do this so I can’t compare the two. The only way I can do something similar in Plex (not Plexamp) is to go to an artist of that Genre and click the radio button feature so that in theory it will play similar artists.

This is how I typically do this in Plexamp:

But the results are never favorable for me because as I’ve explained it will keep repeating the same albums over and over (another song from the same album) which I definitely don’t like. I want it to be completely random which is why I prefer shuffle.

I would rather go to Plex and use the Filter feature to filter by Genre of “Punk” and shuffle all. This is much more favorable as I don’t keep seeing the same albums.

Like this in Plex (app for Android):

But obviously this app isn’t nearly as “nice” as Plexamp. But my ears don’t really know the difference. It’s just the features, and visuals that are lacking.

So in a perfect world, Plexamp would have both the “radio” features, AND the ability to filter, and shuffle and it would be perfect!

With all due respect, in the time you’ve taken to post all this (in many separated posts not to mention), you could have made the genre playlists you mentioned, and use regular shuffle on those.

My apologies for the time spent, and the separated posts (sometimes my thoughts occur after I post, so I continue).

I guess my thought process is to address the issues that I find, so that it can ultimately help to design a better product for everyone. Sorry if I am coming off as sounding selfish that I want this for only myself.

Yes, I could use the mix builder, but in a scenario where I have a hundred or so artists in my library, it is very tedious so have to use the mix builder rather than a filter that includes all tagged artists of each Genre. Some days I want to listen to Punk AND Metal, or Punk AND Alternative. Maybe all three. So I would have to create a mix builder for all of the variations of my listening moods. Does that make more sense?

I didn’t mean to rub anyone the wrong way with my posts. I’m essentially trying to bring this to your attention, and hope that the features improve. Not trying to criticize or say that Plexamp is bad. Thanks for reading.

Maybe try something like this?

Basically: go into Plex Web, filter your music down to Punk (or whatever you want), and save that as a Smart Playlist. Teknojnky and I both suggested this earlier in the thread, as we’re both using Smart Playlists pretty extensively for the sort of stuff you’re after. It’s separate and entirely different from Mix Builder; it sounds like you might be conflating the two features?

If you have any trouble, feel free to hit me up to lend a hand, but I think this solution might resolve 99% of your current genre-related Plexamp issues, at least until the “genre shuffle” stuff is eventually available (hopefully soon).
