I’m still enjoying and discovering more in details PlexAMP. The new release this week is very interesting. Thanks !
I’m wondering if a behavior I’m facing in latest PlexAMP is expected (designed like this) or if it’s an issue.
I chosen a few List, Albums, Artist to download (sync) in PlexAmp. Sync : OK
Then when go offline (Airplane) I can still listen to the current activated playlist but I cannot navigate anymore the Library.
Example : if I’m listening to a title, I cannot from the current title playing go to the artist or the album to see other Titles or Albums of this artist. This, even if all titles/albums of this artist has been synced.
To illustrate:
Album/Artist downloaded:
Playing (offline) this title, Try to “Go to album”:
Leads to an endless spinning…:
Try to go back (left arrow, top left):
Go to Library, try to browse “Artists”:
Got this:
Try to search:
I tried to uninstall/install again PlexAMP but it made no change.
Is it an expected behavior or is it something that will evolve to make PlexAMP more friendly in offline situations ?
PlexAmp does not download/copy the entire library (=metadata).
So if you’re completely offline (e.g. in airplane mode), you will not be able to browse your library.
This is a “big” limitation that prevent the user to even choose what he precisely wants to listen to (easily).
Is it subject to improvement or do you think it will stay this way ?
I understand that streaming is the preferred way to use PlexAMP, but currently offline mode is a bit a degraded user experience, especially compared to plex player.
I have patiently built a music library that can fit in my iPhone storage space once compressed and I was a bit disappointed to understand (in another thread in the forum) that there is no easy way to download it all (full) in PlexAmp. Now that I travel again a lot by plane and train I’m facing all the other limitations of offline mode in PlexAMP.
I sincerely hope that there is a chance that things improve a bit in this area and may be reach the confort of offline mode of plex player.
Plex player also has its own limitations in offline mode (no more fading between songs) it also miss an equalizer and carplay support but overall it’s a better solution than plexamp in situation where network access is not possible or reliable.
PlexAmp on the other side is a really better music player in online mode (equalizers, fader, additional metadata, direct notation access, radios, mood, ambiance…)
I’m dreaming of mix of plex player and plexamp ! Who knows !
