PlexAmp -> Carplay woes

Server Version#: Windows 10 v4.34.4
Player Version#: iOS PlexAmp v3.2.1

Using PlexAmp with CarPlay on my 2020 Toyota, the artist library only shows artists A-L and will not show M-Z. The exception is when I’m in my garage and the iPhone is still on house WiFi. Then it shows all artists. However, as soon as I leave the garage and drop back to cellular service (unlimited Verizon with full signal), I’m back to only seeing artists A-L, although if I started an album from M-Z while in the garage, it keeps playing, even though I can’t get back to that artist’s letter in the library.

A second problem is that even though an artist has 40-50 albums, PlexAmp->CarPlay only shows the first 8-10 albums and I can’t access the remaining albums.

FWIW, none of these problems occur when using PlexAmp without CarPlay, whether on WiFi or cellular. My Plex server runs under Windows on a 1G/1G fiber connection.

Any ideas, or something I haven’t seen on this forum. Thanks!

OK, I get it. Gotta put the car in Park (preferably while not moving) in order to see all the artists and albums. Thanks CarPlay… for nothing!

Suggestion for PlexAmp - have a user option to nest the display of artists and albums in groups of 10. So… have a first level menu of A-J, K-T and U-Z. When you drill down to a single letter, then have Letter M - 1, Letter M-2, etc… And within the artist, Rolling Stones - 1, Rolling Stones -2, etc…

Yeah, I know its a lot to deal with while you’re driving, but better than smashing the scroll button over and over trying to find artists K-Z without any satisfaction.

One of the reasons I went for a PlexPass was to be able to listen to my music collection while doing long drives. I realize that playlists (at least the first 10) would work, but I like to choose my music on the spur of the moment. I also need reading glasses (not good for driving) to see my phone, so running PlexAmp directly on the phone is a non-starter.

Anyway, thanks for all the other great Plex stuff.

it’s incredibly annoying and even more so that it doesn’t give any indication why it’s limiting the number.

they have a maximum limit on nesting too.

Thanks for the response. I understand Apple’s cautionary approach to driving with CarPlay, much as it still annoys me.

Perhaps, as PlexAmp matures, you can make CarPlay restrictions more obvious in the documentation or within the app. Would have saved me some bruises on my forehead from banging my head against the dashboard in frustration. There are a lot of moving parts: iOS 14, PlexAmp, CarPlay, Plex Server and the cellular connection. I was initially confused which of these was the source of the problem. Finally found clues in this forum, but it took a while.

Thanks @elan for your help.
