Description:
When playing music via PlexAmp on CarPlay sometimes the output will stop, carplay will exit and the infotainment system will switch to whatever the default is in the car (whatever was last playing without a phone). The only way to resume music playing is to un-plug and re-plug in the phone, audio output in PlexAmp switches to the phone’s speakers.
Steps To Repo:
I do not have a reliable method of reproducing, here’s the most common scenarios:
- When leaving the house right after plugging in the phone (less than 30s of audio has played). This could be related to leaving WiFi and entering cellular territory, but as it happens elsewhere when not in WiFi range, maybe a buffering or local storage issue?
- When driving in general, down the highway for example, no surrounding wifi, can be during an album that has been downloaded or one that is streaming, both cause it.
Workaround:
Other apps do not have this problem (SiriusXM App, Spotify, Apple Music). I can reliably play them (and do) without ever experiencing this issue.
Thoughts/Notes:
It’s weird that the audio suddenly comes out of the phone’s speakers if you switch back to CarPlay. If I open up the PlexAmp app it immediately loads making me think it didn’t fully dump back to the springboard but instead maybe crashed via the audio output. Although it could be that carplay immediately woke PlexAmp back up and it’s fully loaded before I can get back into the app making it look like it was there all along.
Recent Versions (within the past 2 months or so) have sometimes (not always) done the switch to car infotainment and then suddenly PlexAmp picks back up and takes over again resuming the song a few seconds later (both in time and in the song’s duration [so I miss a few seconds of the song, don’t know if that’s important as I guess it’s still playing to plexamp]). This isn’t consistent and it still does the original description listed above.
This isn’t all the time and I can’t figure out what the variables are to set it up to get it to do this consistently.
I really thought this was a problem with my car’s infotainment system until I wasn’t able to reproduce it with SiriusXM App/Spotify/Apple Music. I’m not sure what’s different here but I can reliably do it with PlexAmp but not with these other apps.
