Based on the multi-disc issue I can understand why it might be “missing” albums, but the missing tracks is more confusing to me. I would be very interested in hearing if you can track down a missing track, as I cannot imagine why this would be the case. The Plex Music scanner/agent using the new native scanning pipeline which is also faster, but it might account for a slight difference if you have some “obscure” file extensions we might be missing, e.g.
I was a bit confused about the missing tracks too. Unfortunately I’ve zapped the library now as it was just a test to see how the Plex Music agent handled things nowadays. It took around 20 hours for Plex to scan my full FLAC folder so probably won’t be doing it again for a while because my wimpy Celeron NAS grinds to a halt!
Prior to deleting the test library, I did have a quick look at a few albums that have caused problems historically with software that ignores the Disc Number tag - for example there’s a Sinead O’Connor 2xCD album Theology where the first 3 tracks on both discs have the same track title. Some older software thought they were duplicates and ignored the ones from Disc 2, but I can confirm that Plex had no issues with that one.
All my files are FLAC format, with a .flac file extension. I’ve also ensured there’s no wacky characters in any of the filenames. For example, I’ve always avoided having &, !, ?, / etc or any accented characters in the filename… this habit stems from the early 2000’s when some players threw a fit if there were non-English characters in there, and I’ve kept up the habit ever since despite it likely not being an issue nowadays. Just call me OCD ![]()
Apologies if my previous post came over as a little confrontational.
It looks like Plexamp has mistaken release as the date tracks are added to the library. I setup Plexamp in 2021, so most of mine are mislabelled as 2021. Oddly, this issue doesn’t appear to have affected anything added to my library in 2023. Examples below.
Mastodon - Cold Dark Place (2017)
• Added - 2021
• Now playing - 2021
Quickly, Quickly - The Long and Short of It (2021)
• Added - 2022
• Now playing - 2022
Allan Holdsworth - Secrets (1989)
• Added - 2023
• Now playing - 1989
I believe this is a bug in the Personal Media Agent; we don’t recommend its usage at this point.
I have this same issue. I turned off Personal Media Agent and the year is still messed up. Do I need to delete my library and start again with that option off?
I believe this is a bug in the Personal Media Agent; we don’t recommend its usage at this point.
If the Personal Media agent’s use isn’t recommended at this point, how are we supposed to get Plex to display some albums correctly?
I can start a separate thread*, but I’m running into similar issues where my FLAC files are correctly tagged with Picard, have different album names (e.g. the original from 1987, appended with “(Deluxe Edition)” from 2014, and appended with “(30th Anniversary Edition)” from 2017), I’ve enabled prefer local metadata, etc, etc, according to the guides, and still Plex decides to merge these separate albums into one if I use the Plex Music agent instead of the Personal Media agent.
It’s almost as if prefer local metadata means “I’ll pretend to use this as a guide, but do what I want to instead” instead of actually preferring the local metadata.
- As to why I didn’t start a new thread - I ran into the same wrong year being displayed in Plexamp issue, which took me down the rabbit hole of setting up a new music library and playing around with the settings until my music displayed correctly, and Plexamp displaying the correct year with the Personal Media agent again.
Please refer to these threads (caution they’re long, but worth the read because they’re highlighting several fallacies): All of my "Various Artists" albums changed Artist name
and Manual Album Artist Changes Unmatches Music
All of this has nothing to do with Plexamp specifically but with the Plex server and how it is indexing your music.
All follow-up discussion should therefore happen in the https://forums.plex.tv/c/plex-media-server/metadata-adding-files/124 subforum, instead of here.
