Plexamp - Fixed 0db out to external DAC

Is there anyway to set fixed 0db output on Plexamp? That way, external DAC pre-amps can control volume. The Plex volume knob seems to run quite hot, so when maxing out volume on Plexamp it seems rather loud.

Thanks

Disable volume levelling, the limiter, and set the preamp to 0dB. That way you’ll get exactly the levels as they are in your files.

But be prepared to adjust the volume a lot.

Or maybe just leave the volume levelling active, but do the other two things from above. That’s how I use it with my external DAC and the analog attenuator behind it.

Thanks. Your answer actually filled in the gaps for me, I Think. If I understand your answer correctly, you are saying that as long as Plexamp is in charge of loudness levelling (which is turned on), Limiter (which was already off anyway) and Preamp (which I already had set to 0 db), that it wouldn’t matter because the adjustments are made on the 0db?

My observation is that when all is turned off and volume on plexamp is set to maximum (all the way to the right) it does appear to run quite hot (too loud) at least compared to other streamers such as LMS which has the one button option to set output to 0 db.

Still, would be nice if we could get a one button option in Plexamp to take out all the guesswork

Loudness levelling should already turn down the volume on tracks which are mastered too hot (of which there are a lot out there).
Unless you have something else in the signal path which behaves like a compressor or such, you should be getting decent levels and no clipping.

Look for additional processing in your OS audio settings. If you run Windows, for instance, you want all the options disabled, regarding surround sound processing, speaker upmixing, room correction, bass boost, volume levelling (yes, Windows has its own – completely separate from Plexamp’s.) etc.pp.

Understood and thanks again
