When I go into the Library Radio, Plexamp just sits there and clocks and plays nothing. As I understand it, Library Radio is essentially the same feature and going into the full Plex iOS app and navigating to the music library and using the Shuffle All feature.
I was able to hack a work-around by creating a playlist out of every single song in my music library but that just seems redundant. Library Radio should be doing exactly that or there’s no point in having it.
Not totally true; among other things, Library Radio depends on having popularity data for your library tracks. Make sure you haven’t disabled this option in your music library’s advanced settings.
I disabled “Download popular track information” on purpose. “Popular” is irrelevant to me. It’s someone else’s idea of what I might want to listen to and I’m not at all interested. All I want to hear or see is what is in my library and I want Plexamp to play them as close to randomly as possible.
Correct me if I’m wrong but enabling this option also adds a section in the full desktop player above the track listing and, again, that information is useless to me.
Then ignore Library Radio and shuffle all your music instead.
That’s what I did. To me, it’s a misnomer to call it “Library Radio” when it requires enabling features that are external to the media contained within it so I assumed it wasn’t working correctly. As mentioned in my OP, I created a playlist with every song in my library as there’s no way to do a “Shuffle All” in Plexamp. The pain point in this solution is that whenever I add a new record, I have to also add it to the playlist. Redundant but oh well.
To clarify, you disabled something which is enabled by default. I’m not sure why requiring external metadata to power the feature means it’s incorrectly named.
That’s an unnecessary pain point. Create a smart playlist without any criteria, call it All Music, and you’ll have exactly what you’re looking for. In additional, it’ll also show up in Recent Plays and Recent Playlists, which makes it accessible from the home screen in a single click.
Thank you for pointing that out. I had no idea that even existed. I’ll fiddle around with it a bit and hopefully that will give me exactly what I’m looking for.
For what it’s worth, it would probably be a good idea to add some sort of alert in Plexamp when people go into ‘Library Radio’ and nothing happens but a clocking icon. One would logically assume that it’s not working.
