PlexAmp on Android-Auto

Bump. I want Android auto compatibility please.

It is in the works and will be coming in the near future.

the current version is almost unusable with unsolved bugs and do you think they can support another one with new and amazing functions?

Which bugs are you referring to? Anything we can help you with?

very curious that you don’t know anything about it
look for threads tagged “android auto” and you’ll see that chorus of enthusiasts

I thought you were referring to other issues with the app. AA will be coming to Plexamp. That and CarPlay as well as casting capabilities.

we’ll see but I don’t have many expectations

from these statements I don’t think there are big news in the future …

Your description of Plexamp is very attractive, and, to the limited extent I have been able to see it work, it looks promising. Unfortunately, it is almost totally dysfunctional, at least on my device, a Blackberry/Android DTEK 60. I have used Plex on it very successfully for two years, but Plexamp is a struggle. I can occasionally get it to play a track, but usually the player flickers on the screen for an instant, and then disappears, leaving me back at the tracklist or directory at which I started. Until this can be resolved, the app is utterly useless to me on that device. I’ll see whether I get any better luck with the PC/Desktop version.

I’m really looking forward to the integration of Plexamp with Android Auto also. The app itself works great for me, and has a lot of cool features above the standard Plex app. But when I play music through the USB port in my car, I have to keep referring back to my phone to switch playlists etc. Therefore I’ve been using the standard app for the most part while driving.

I’ve reproduced the issue. I had ‘store track position’ checked on the server. It was playing the next track at the last saved position. Could do with a ‘store track position for tracks over X minutes’ option, this would be handy for long mixes or podcasts but would not affect tracks of a normal length

Oh, that’s good to know. Thanks for following up with what was happening. Enjoy your tunes!

Unfortunately, I’ve had to uninstall from my phone. It’s so frustrating, I have been using Plex for years for movies and TV and have a massive library. I really want this to be my go to music player on Android, but for some reason it’s using 1% per minute of my battery. I’ve got the hq graphics setting off and my phone is blocking battery use in the background, but as soon as I play music it just kills the battery.

Holy smokes. Sorry for the battery drain. Hopefully that can be looked at soon.

If PlexAmp would actually work with AA, I would love it. As reg Plex app has been horrible with AA the last year or so. Either Google assistant will say she doesn’t know what to do with my command (American male with no accent, and no issues with other apps with AA), Plex will display some error on the head unit’s screen saying it’s not working correctly (or some similar verbiage), or song/music will play via another app (like Spotify). One workaround I’ve found is to select the music I want to play using the phone (while connected via USB), but then a lot of times AA won’t realize that Plex is playing, so pause and next buttons will not work.

The issue seems to be that Plex doesn’t properly send the “Hey i’m playing music” event (or however android handles this) when you resume playback after Plex decides to murder itself because you didn’t have it in focus for 12.5 seconds while your music was paused. I have the same issue on AA as well as my smart watch. It doesn’t realize you’re playing music until you either switch tracks (most of the time this works, but sometimes even this doesn’t work) or start a whole new playlist.

Plexamp3 seems to copy some of this code from Plex as I’ve noticed the same behaviour. At least the murdering itself after pausing the music is less of an issue because the startup time and remembering the track position is about 700% better than Plex Android is. But it sort of falls apart if i can’t use my steering wheel controls or watch buttons to change tracks without starting a whole new playlist.

And I could have sworn that before I abandoned Plex on AA (for Spotify) a year or so ago, that Plex would remember where I left off when getting back in the car, now it doesn’t. Plex on the phone actually does, as it’ll show the song that was playing in the car in the notification area (when I get out of the car), but then when I get back in, nothing resumes. Even pressing the play button on notification area doesn’t do anything (or errors out).

all right
and then…

I would love this feature!

Yes please. Adding Android Auto would likely make this app my primary music player.
