Plexamp "retry"

My windows installation stopped working correctly. I tried logging out and back in. But all I got was the plexamp logo a horizontal button and a retry button. I’ve uninstalling and re-installed but get the same.

Could there be some errant corrupted files hanging around? I can’t actually find the plexamp installation files to see if any got left over by the uninstall.

Close Plexamp and and clear out the folders
C:\Users\<userame>\AppData\Local\Plexamp
as well as
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Plexamp

Make sure you have a ‘default’ web browser set in Windows. It is called by Plexamp at the first run to perform the login to your plex account.

thanks for the assistance.

So I first closed down and scrubbed the two folders (I always forget to check in roaming!)

Restarted. Same issue.

Checked browsers. I had Opera set as default (yeah, I know but it starts really quickly as a default) so switched that to Edge. Closed down, restarted.

Still the same.

So I kept the default browser as edge, uninstalled, then scrubbed the settings and reinstalled. Still the same issue.

Bit puzzling. Plex itself is working fine.

Do you have issues reaching plex.tv? Or perhaps trouble reaching your own, local server with some other Plex clients?
This is usually caused by malfunctions or over-eagerly filtering at the DNS level.

I don’t oven use plex.tv but I did connect earlier and it went straight in.

Standard plex is working absolutely fine.

I’m at home too! I’m on the same network as the server. Though I’m guessing I still need to log in first and that requires to connect to remote servers.

DNS on my network adapter was set as default, so just switched it to 8.8.8.8 and retried, but to no avail (also did a restart after changing this)

What do you mean here? Are you saying that your server is not logged into a plex user account?

I mean that, I’m expecting that the first time plexamp connects to a server, it can’t do so entirely locally and that it uses an online login.

My server is logged into a plex account. I’ve got plexamp playing music from my server right now on another little box in the same room as this laptop. The only difference is the laptop is connecting to wifi. I’m gonna try stick it into the ethernet shortly. I dunno much about networking but if it’s DNS maybe using a different adapter could help. Is it worth me connecting the laptop to a 4g hotspot to see if that will make a difference.

It is at least worth a try. An if you succeed that way, it is a valuable data point for finding the cause of the issue.

The most common cause of the " unable to get local issuer certificate " error is a misconfigured web server that fails to send all of the intermediate certificates with the server certificate , when the client and server perform the SSL/TLS negotiation

My guess is there’s some proxy (or malware) which is screwing things up.

Got it.

Blue Coat Unified Agent is the culprit. Delightful corporate software kicking in even when I’m off their network. Had to keep disabling it from the task manager too because it kept restarting. Just seems to affect the login. Once I got past that it plexamp is running fine even whilst bluecoat is.

Interestingly there’s nothing in the bluecoat logs that it’s blocking anything. So I get the feeling this is some undesirable behavior. Not like I can log it to my work service desk though. “When I’m using your laptop on an evening to listen to music, off your network, I can’t connect to plexamp…” is not going to do down well!

Much obliged folks.

It would be nice if we could set up a custom CA certificate in order to allow usage of plexamp when something like a ZScaler appliance is in use on a corporate network.
