When using plexamp with android auto (via smartphone), the search is majorly broken for a couple of reasons:
Voice input with google does only work exactly once. When you try pressing the microphone icon a 2nd time in the search bar it just makes a short blip sound (different from the regular “talk now” sound) and that’s it
The search will only return some random songs. For example if I would search for “Taylor Swift” it will return 2-3 songs. Although on the device are multiple albums. For most things it never returns any results.
Note that this only happens in android auto mode. When disconnecting my phone from android auto everything just works
Thanks for your quick reply! Just so we talk about the same thing: I’m not talking about any “ok google” commands, but rather the regular speech to text input when pressing the microphone icon in the searchbar of plexamp. This mostly worked fine before.
Attached are the logs.
I’ve executed the test search (via speech to text) which only displayed 2 results at Mar 09, 2025 00:36:15.484
Afterwards I typed in the text manually via the touchscreen of the car, but it yields the same results.
Using the plexamp app on the same phone directly shows the search results correctly.
Android Auto 13.7.650624-release, Android 15, Pixel 7 Pro
Plexamp v4.11.5
Out of curiosity, when searching for the same thing inside Plexamp, is it missing the other types of results, or missing additional tracks specifically?
It looks like it’s just displaying the track results and not others. I’m not sure why, as it appears that we are returning all of the results to Android Auto Do those other types appear in other apps?
Good question, don’t even have one. But I can verify that.
I was under the assumption that the plexamp android auto UI is provided by the app? Or does AA require all music players to use the same UI components?
