Plexamp - Shanling M3X DAP - Android 7.0 - Not working

Player Version#: 3.4.6

Hey guys,

Plexamp doesn’t play my music files on this Android DAP I have - the Shanling M3X running Android 7.0

The app loads fine, music downloads fine for local but when I play a file, it just cycles through the trackless for a split second, no sound is a made and stops when it reaches the end of the album.
Not the most powerful chipset but I can play all my FLAC’s on VLC and its own Shanling Music app.
I just paid for life-time Plex-pass too so I can all good, but then realised this app glitch :frowning:

Can someone help or know if there is a solution?
On Reddit there is a fair few of us with this issue.

Thank you!

I think we need an Android newer than 7.0  Plexamp logs might show more details, I suspect it’s having trouble loading the decoder plugins.

Hi! Just want to chime in and mention that I’m running into the same issues, which is a shame, because Plexamp and this DAP would be match made in heaven :-).

The android version of the DAP isn’t 7.0 by the way, but 7.1.1., if that helps. I’ve also tried to create a log, but unfortunately this also gives an error, so I’m not able to share any logs from the device as of now.

Best,

Sytze

Thanks for chiming in! Sorry I got it wrong with the 7.0 part.
Indeed Plexamp + this DAP is perfect combo! :frowning: Now waiting for Apple Music/Spotify Lossless but not quite the same as my own collection.
The stock player is not so interesting has 1 major issue - no Album Artist sorting, just Artist. Makes a big mess on how I tag and most people tag.

Would there be a chance dev’s can spend time to port this to work with 7.xx?

Many of the DAPs that are now running Android all run fairly old chipsets that are also stuck on Android 7.0. A good market of enthusiasts that would all likely be familiar with Plex and now Plexamps great features.
The app runs so smooth and normal on the DAP, downloads, scrolls fine etc, just doesn’t play the media when selected.
We (collectively) would really appreciate it!!!

Can we start by posting logs of a failure to play?

Hi there Elan,
Whats the best way to log this and share? I am a noob on Android. Is there any app that will log all the crashes that I can share the .txt file?

On Android and iOS, access to logs is available inside of Plexamp.
Settings - Advanced - Debugging

For catching crashes and other issues on Android, a “Logcat Reader” type of app might be sometimes useful.

If I’ve done everything correctly, this should be the log of Plexamp of my device, hope this helps!

Here is my debug log from Plexamp that I hope can shed light on the why the device just skips through tracks.

Jun 08, 2021 21:11:10.672 [0x5edf1450] DEBUG - BASS: Preferred audio interface is 'aaudio'
Jun 08, 2021 21:11:10.672 [0x5edf1450] ERROR - BASS: Error initializing - 6 - trying again.

Looks like 6 means the device can’t be opened with the specific format desired. I assume you’ve tried the other audio interface available (OpenSL ES)?

Logcat might show more details.

Same issue with the other interface type:

Jun 08, 2021 14:51:30.754 [0x5e5ff450] DEBUG - BASS: Preferred audio interface is 'opensl'
Jun 08, 2021 14:51:30.755 [0x5e5ff450] ERROR - BASS: Error initializing - 6 - trying again.

Does the device have known limitations/restrictions on format (e.g. sample rate)?

Thanks for checking out the logs! I don’t have a lot of technical knowledge about this stuff, but I noticed Shanling uses something they call ‘Aglo’ (Android Global Lossless Output) for their Android based players, which is supposed to bypass the audio limitations on Android: M3X_Shenzhen Shanling Digital Techno

Maybe it has something to do with this? I think Shanling are pretty active on the Head-Fi forum, so I could also try asking there?

Any information you can get would be useful, thanks!

And they’re welcome to send us a unit to test with

Hey all,

I am having the same problem with the Shanling M8 DAP running Android 7.1.1.
So, I imagine this is a Shanling issue.

Here is my debug log from Plexamp.

Thank you!

Have you any new informations from Shanling ?

I’ve already asked the Shanling User about this issue on the Head-fi forum a few weeks / months ago. He said that the dev team is informed about it but I don’t know if they are working on it.

It would be fantastic to be able to use Plexamp on Shanling m3x.

Any one have any updates on getting plexamp running on the M3X?

It didn’t work on my Shanling M8, but after the latest Plexamp update, it started working. So, maybe someone with an M3x can try again.
