Plexamp shows file info but won't start playback

Server Version#: 1.42.2.10156

Player Version#: 4.156.0 (Plex Web); v4.12.4 (Plexamp on Android)

Hello! I’m running a headless Plex server through a Raspberry Pi.

In the past week, music playback hasn’t worked. First started after I switched libraries, but I’m getting the same problem when I switched back.

Some symptoms:

I’ve tried downloading a 200 song playlist to Plexamp, and it never completes.

Playback from Plexamp on my Pixel does not work, but all music files and folder structure are viewable. When I try to play, it times out, or immediately pauses.

Playback from app.plex.tv works sporadically, and occasionally I get a Playback Error “content is unavailable”.

I mainly use Plexamp on Android Auto or casting to Sonos from within Plexamp, but sometimes from the Sonos app, where I’ve connected my Plex account.

I’m a beginner at Linux commands but managed to set up the server in 2022, and have had mostly consistent success updating the software via SSH. Happy to provide other info; this is a debug log from Plexamp downloaded recently.

There are a few instances in your log of playback not starting:

Dec 01, 2025 20:38:52.596 [0x0e9d0500] ERROR - BASS: Error [ret = BASS_StreamCreateFileUser((DWORD)STREAMFILE_NOBUFFER, flags, &proc, m_context.get())] - 41

The reading code shows:

Dec 01, 2025 20:35:08.316 [0xe65fb500] INFO - Cache: Network error (-56) occurred (retry: 0), we might want to kick off recovery (still 0 bytes in network buffer).

Which means it got its data stream from the server essentially cut off. It’s hard to venture future what might be the issue, as there are many reasons this could happen (server loses access to file, network flakiness, etc.)

That’s very helpful Elan, thanks for combing through the logs. I recently tried changing the public DNS on my network to 8.8.8.8 but may have missed a step. I’ll do some network troubleshooting and report back.
