I’m confused by sort order for albums in PlexAmp. All my audiobooks are tagged by %albumname% e.g. Killing Floor, and %albumsortorder% e.g. Jack Reacher 01 - Killing Floor, and each book sits in its own folder named after the sort order. In Plex Web UI, that means they all appear in the correct order e.g.
Jack Reacher 01 - Killing Floor
Jack Reacher 02 - Die Trying etc etc.
But in Plexamp, the sort order in Album view is completely confusing. Killing Floor appears after Jack Reacher 21 - Night School. Which is neither sortorder, not title order.
The same with other series - some books just appear out of order - but are correct in Plex Web UI. So, I know the tags are correct - I just don’t understand how PlexAmp is sorting them?
It’s clearer in ‘Artists’ view, the albums appear to be ordered by date - which tbh is not helpful as books might not be recorded in date order. But why ignore the sortorder tag anyway? It’s there for a reason.
How is the album list configured in your Plexamp? → encircled ... button in the top-right corner. If it’s sorted by title, those albums should be sorted by their name / sort name. If the library is sorted by album artist, Plexamp will sort by album artist and then by release date again.
Ah - that explains it. I’m sorting via Album Artist - which as you say, then sorts the albums by date. If I choose title, it sorts by sortorder - but alphabetically based on the root folder rather than the artist folder, which is confusing! But at least I understand it now, thank you.
What this means though is that PlexAmp does not sort the same as Plex Web UI for Albums. On Plex Web UI, it sorts Album → AlbumArtist → Album Sortorder. But on PlexAmp, it’s Album → AlbumArtist → Release Date. My opinion of course, but I think that’s confusing (given that it’s exactly the same library, media type etc, just a different platform). I’d expect the order to be the same for consistency.
