Hey,
When looking through my library earlier, I noticed the order for sorting was off.
See below, the Led Zeppelin order is off. It should be I, II then III. But III is shown first. When I go into the artist and look at the order it seems fine. Well, the first 2 albums came out in 1969, so it’s put II then I, but it’s still closer, haha.
Any idea why this is happening? Also is there a way to order the the albums with earliest first when looking at the full library?
There is an “Advanced->Album Sorting” setting on your Music library you can change from your server settings. I have the same minor issue if albums for an artist have the same ‘Year’ tag, they may not be sorted accurately. My FLAC files all have a ‘Year’ tag with just the 4-digit year (e.g. ‘1969’).
Thanks for the info. I tried that and it did update some bits mainly on the artists page, the main library view is still making it’s own order or it looks alphabetical. Bit weird as there’s different results across the web browser and Plexamp.
It would be cool if they both matched and it was controlled easier.
If they both have the same release date, the order is not really defined and can vary. Make sure the original release date in web includes month and day.
Based on Elan’s comment, I was able to get the proper sort order for a couple of my Artists that had multiple albums released in the same year. For example, ‘Please Please Me’ and ‘With The Beatles’, both released in 1963. I added the appropriate ‘OriginalDate’ tag value (YYYY-MM-DD) to all the tracks in those two albums. So the albums have the following two ‘date’ related tags. Be sure to add the tag ‘OriginalDate’ with no spaces in the tag name.
Album: Please Please Me
Year: 1963
OriginalDate: 1963-03-22
Album: With The Beatles
Year: 1963
OriginalDate: 1963-11-22
The mp3 tags ‘Year’ and ‘OriginalDate’ are mapped and saved as Vorbis comments ‘Date’ and ‘Original Release Date’ in the FLAC file creator/editor tools I use (dbPowerAmp/PerfectTUNES ID tag). I verified this by looking at the FLAC file with a Vorbis tag reader program (‘MusicBrainz Picard’).
The ‘OriginalDate’ values I added show up in the Plex UI under the ‘Edit’ Album interface:
Yeah, that’s sorted it. I just entered the additional date info in the edit window. I didn’t add it to the files via metadata as I only add the year on all my files.
