whatever the default is. Which currently it is optimised for the battery. This really shouldn’t matter because no other audio apps are having this issue.
This is like a mystery and we’re like detectives trying to solve it, so every bit of information helps It looks like there are two settings: Background Restrictions and Battery Optimization. Do you happen to have the Background restriction on?
(A helpful person who is more versed in Android also suggested that you try turning off battery optimization and seeing if that also makes the issue go away. Not necessarily as a permanent solution but as another diagnostic tool.)
It was set to “intelligent control” - changes according to your usage and app characterisitcs.
I have set it for “Don’t Optimise” now and will test.
Thanks very much, interested to hear how it goes!
@elan after several days of testing, no change. Plexamp def has a bug with my phone brand/android version.
interesting, thanks for the update. and still related to plugging into power?
seems to be.
one more question; if you kill the app, and then restart it with something playing (so it starts up in a paused state), do you get a notification for it?
you shouldn’t until you play, but just want to confirm.
No, I don’t. No notification.
Sorry for the trouble, but if you wouldn’t mind, please send over another set of logs right after you see the notification appear. We’ll look them over again and see if there are any clues we missed which we could use to instrument an APK for you.
The phone got software updated and now it hasn’t happened. I’m going to keep on monitoring.
omg if this ends up being the issue i will rejoice! if it is the case, please post the version of the software it was fixed in so we can let others know.
and thanks for posting an update instead of just never coming back, it’s super helpful
@elan spoke too soon, that wasn’t the fix. I am not sure what is causing it now. Tried to get logs but it says I can’t for some reason.
Is there an update to this @elan ?
Well, to be honest I’m a bit stymied here. Would appreciate a log next time it happens just to verify I’m not missing anything but it seems like:
- The OS is putting Plexamp into a deep sleep (but not killing it).
- Hours later the OS is waking it up for some unknown reason (maybe because it’s on power now).
- The app has no control over whether the OS does this or not.
- If the app were started from scratch it would only display a notification if connected to Android Auto.
So I’m not sure what to recommend or how to avoid the OS treating us like this.
OK. Thanks. I can’t get the logs because it keeps on saying ‘contains no data’. Is there a fix for this? I don’t want to have to delete it but I think I have no choice at this point.
If it drives you crazy that the OS appears to be trying to do you a favor by making it easy to resume playback, can you instead stop playback (hold down on the play/pause button)? That should avoid the system making a notification for it.
That works! wow. Such an easy fix @elan . The problem now is once I play something again, it will happen again. Is there a way to make ‘stop’ the default instead of pause?
