This guide is old and a alternative method using shared and local libraries has been implmented into the main code of plexconnect just grab it here:
https://github.com/iBaa/PlexConnect
*Note if you are using plexconnect in a remote location you still need a instance of plexconnect at the remote site for your appletv to load plexconnect. Just sign into myplex and you can see your pms and myplex libraries anywhere.
A few points/questions:
- With MyPlex integration a local PMS is no longer required using a standard setup.
- UPNP will probably not work with this configuration as your are initiating the connection from outside your network
- Are you sure this does not work by just entering your DYNDNS in settings.cfg without altering the main files?
- I believe M Latte showed a long time ago that you can also use the DYNDNS address in the PMS authorised network configuration
- Post 32400 is the correct port only if you use the standard port for MyPlex/PMS
- you may want to ready up on what a pull request is - also edge case scenarios are very unlikely to be incorporated int code

That is correct

That im not sure of, you are the guru.

Yes, ive tried other methods with no success. I would love if that were the case though

He did? Ive tried to enter the dyndns into pms but had no luck. I will try again and see.

Agreed

As I said im not the best with pull request, wanted to leave it to the pros
Nice work! Now I can just run plexconnect at my parent's house and not be afraid they'll mess up an installation for PMS. Plus it'll be easier for them to just ignore plexconnect running in the back ground! THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
.
The editing of the main files is NOT necessary. Got it running at my parents house. Now that subtitles are also supported through myplex im gonna change their setup to myplex though, because they mess up my viewed states…

Care to share? Your process?
Oops. My parents have a LOCAL plexconnect instance running. Different situation.
@Baa has made this extremely easy with the new plexconnect build. All you need to do now is edit settings.cfg on your remote plexconnect device & allow without auth in your local pms (you can do this remotely since you must have your pms port forwarded e.g. 32400). Download available on first post in case it is changed in the future.

You know you can point to every random commit on github, no?
So there is a way to go back to previous builds, nice. Can you link it here I don't see how to point to old commits or new ones on your github. I see this but I can't link it back to here as a download:
https://github.com/iBaa/PlexConnect/commits/750d4e00f9eb609afe95406ab1583ad5e49ae369
Plexconnect on the go, myplex & configured channels all in one remotely as a option. What will you guys thing of next :P
You can even resume where you left off at home, awsome!
we need this to work like this...open ATV...stick in my public IP...and go!

Then search the commit you want, press the "Browse code ->" link and download from there...
I see it now, I wasn’t browsing far enough, thanks.
Can someone dumb this down for me?
I have Plexconnect running at my house local, but if I want my brother to be able to use his ATV at his house using my PMS, can someone outline the steps for me?
I will assume a couple of things here for the Remote Location Requirements:
No local PMS required at remote location.
Plexconnect running at remote location.
Remote ATV with my trailers.pem (So I will need to email him a copy?)
Yes no PMS,
Yes local plexconnect
He needs both a trailers.pem and trailers.cer (can be yours or his own)
He then logs into myplex and under the my plex tab will see your shared library’s. His library will be blank because no local media server with media
Thanks for the quick reply.
After I typed this I was wondering if he could just generate his own cert as he will be running PlexConnect locally.

The quoted method is the official method and is supported.
The ops method will not allow individual watched statuses.
