PlexConnect over VPN

Hi all

I run PlexConnect in my local network and it’s great, have had zero problems really and it’s been stupidly useful as my bedroom setup.

I’m moving out for a couple of months and taking my TV and my AppleTV with me, while my Plex server remains here. I’m trying to set up OpenVPN here at the moment so I can move files around as necessary, but was wondering if this made it possible to keep using PlexConnect from my remote location without having to go through the rigmarole of getting a 24/7 box on that network running the daemon?

How do you intend to signup your AppleTV to use VPN? I think this one is the no-go…
If you have another bridge to connect to your VPN, can that maybe run PlexConnect on it’s own, locally to you new place? That would be the best solution, I guess.

Ah for some reason my followup post didn’t go through. I realised later on that the ATV3 doesn’t have VPN support, for some reason I thought there was a section in the Settings. As I sat on the sofa, thinking to myself “I wouldn’t have these issues if I had one of the new ones”, I decided that the easiest thing to do was to go to town and buy one of the new ones. Problem solved, ha.

So goodbye to PlexConnect, you were so fab and useful and let me sell my Apple TV 2 to purchase the 3rd Gen and open up a ton of stuff I didn’t have access to on the older hardware. Pretty much a problem free year or so, I applaud how good a job you have done implementing it onto the hardware without requiring a jailbreak. Fantastic work.
