Hello. I have an apple tv that is on a SEPERATE network that I would like to access my plex library on my pc at home. I am capable of installing any needed software on a computer on the OTHER network if needed. Help?
How urgent is it?
Easiest solution: Wait for "myPlex" support...

I don't ever think anything is truly "urgent" in the sense of PlexConnect support.. Everything you guys do is just gravy to something that is already great. :)
I would be a great feature though. Any timeframe on MyPlex support?
Thanks
Josh
I havent tried this yet, but in theory should work, if you go into your current plex server and add in the remote IP (External not Internal) of the remote site you want to use into the not require authentication. Then you could install plexconnect at the remote site and in the settings for PMS IP you would put in the WAN IP of the network your Plex server is on. Then you would tell your atv to use the plexconnect at the remote site. In theory that would work.

Just be aware that if your IP changes you may see missing artwork etc..

Just a heads up I tested this, I changed the settings.cfg turned plexgdm to false, and then I put in for my pms ip (I have a dyndns account) I just put that name in there and added the external IP of my remote site to the not required authentication. Worked like a charm.
Nice one, a much better method than what others had been using.
Awesome setup. Would love to set this up for my parents but would prefer their watch status didn't affect mine. I guess I could setup a second server?
On that note, how far off do you guys think myPlex support is? I love PlexConnect. I barely touch my hackintosh anymore!
Yeah I think ill try that setup. It would be ideal if myPlex were to be available for plexconnect in the near future though.
Yeah that is the only problem with this setup is that it is tied to the myplex account that is signed in on the server, oh well, I just hope my idea works for some people who can use it, at least until myplex works with plexconnect.

I'm going to head over to my moms house tomorrow to give it a try.
Would be fantastic if it didn't effect watched status but I can live with that.

Before I make any changes I have a question. Would I run a PlexConnect over there as well as one at my house? Or can I only run one Plexconnect?
Thanks

You need to run one at each site.
Im lending this thread because I think i want to do exactly the same thing. Though my english isnt the best and im quite new at this so I would be extremely thankful if anyone could help me.
Anyway, it’s like this. I have a running plex media server at my home working good (can use it on my phone, pc etc anywhere. What I want is that I can access to my media server in my girlfriends home using her apple tv (5.3~) I also have plexconnect at home (python etc installed)
I know apple tv dont got myplex yet. So how am I supposed to do this?
Some info
Im using windows 7 on my pc running the media server
I got fiber internet with dynamic (changing?) Ip.
I got asus rt n66u (dark night) router.
I have a domain with my ip on dyn.com (I dont neccesarely have to use it if it doesnt make it easier)
If anyone could write a simple step to step guide how to make it work on the other homes apple tv I would be very happy. If it got to work I could make a small donation or something in return.
Using my phone to write this so Im sorry for any spelling misstakea or badly formitted sentences.
Thank you!

You could probably get away with one but would need to setup your router to allow the necessary traffic through.

Foob, one reason I dont recommend this is most home ISP's block DNS port by default, so the poor user could be pounding their head against a wall trying to get it to work and it just never will :).

Understand what you are asking for, however there is nothing that is written that is concrete as each network is different, the above instructions I posted do in fact work, I have had about 5 people side message me to let me know this.
(Anders here) I am trying my best to understand, been reading a lot and trying but didn't get it to work (doesn't make it easier when I have to go to my gfs home just to try as well) however!

What I'm doing is the following (please correct what's wrong)
Entering media manager - settings - show advanced settings - network - put my PCs IP (PC with plex media server) the IP which I find when I use www.whatsmyip.org . Is it the correct IP or should it be the IP of the apple tv?
and now I don't really understand what you mean with saying Then you could install plexconnect at the remote site and in the settings for PMS IP you would put in the WAN IP of the network your Plex server is on
I have downloaded plexconnect and extracted it and got the map PlexConnect-XML_templates. But what do you mean with "at the remote site" and "in the settings for plex media server IP. What I have done now is opening the settings.py and I've edited the line 'ip_pms' :('192.168.xxx.10',), \
Instead of that IP i put my own WAN ip (whatsmyip.org).
And than I enter the settings.cfg file and set enable_plexgdm = false and ip_pms = whatsmyip.org <- the ip which I get there ofc (my wan)
After that I save everything and start plexconnect. It says servers discovered etc but is it supposed to say intercept trailers apple.com 192.168.1.4 ? is that correct?
Than I get into settings on the apple tv at the other home and put my IP (IP from my home running media server -from whatsmyip.org) in the dns etc. And than get into trailers but it doesn't work.
Whats wrong? Sorry for being such a newbie... I really appreciate your help.

Have to tried to login to your PMS from a browser at the remote location? Does that in fact work?
If so, then updating settgings.cfg with the IP and PORT of your PMS and setting plexgdm to false is all you need to do in PlexConnect.
Next, just set your ATV's DNS to manual and change the IP to the local IP of the PC running PlexConnect.
I've done this on several LANs and it always has worked for me.
Note: PlexConnect does not support myPlex yet, so all Sections will show up in Trailers.
I've been running my PMS for several years successfully, when I make the changes for PlexConnect I get a specific error.
19:44:54 DNSServer: started: 19:44:54
19:44:54 DNSServer: Failed to create socket on UDP port 53: [Errno 48] Address already in use
19:44:54 PlexConnect: DNSServer not alive. Shutting down.
19:44:54 PlexConnect: Shutting down.
19:44:54 PlexConnect: shutdown
I'm not mapping port 53 to anything and I tried disabling the DNSServer to no avail.
A little help would be greatly appreciated.
