PlexDVR DVB backend and tuner usage with SAT>IP servers // assign tuners to be used in PlexDVR

Hi Plex Dev Team.

specifically @kinoCharlino and team. I was trying to run a clean scan with the latest versions and realize something “odd”…

I use a DD OctopusNet A8 with eight tuners, and I share these with instances of TVH and VDR. VDR does take a certain amount of tuners, similar as TVH.

However, I realize that your scanning backend does expect at least tuner 1 (tuner ID #0) to be free, otherwise the tuning for the scan fails, as the call directly adresses the tuner. This does make sense if Plex owns the full SAT>IP server, but counteracts the fact that these are meant to be shared in the network.

I checked with TV Mosaic, and it is similar, I actually have to tell the DVBLogic software which tuner it is allowed to use. If the tuner is in use, it just comes back with “no channels found”.

Did you consider this kind of tuner linking for the scanning procedure in PlexDVR? If not, may I ask you to look into this please?

Cheers
Alex

@iPhonedation, thanks for your details report and summary! I’m not aware of the length this has been discussed throughout development, but certainly it would be great to have the ability to assign specific tuners from a device. We’ll definitely take this into consideration for future development work, and I’m filing an internal ticket for it.

Sounds good. I am happy to test this (beta or nightlies are fine). Just PM if you want me to do anything.

Appreciate the offer to test! I added a reference to the ticket for this in the event they need more testers.

Hi - any news on this - in particular my Triax has 4 tuners of which 2 are setup for UK TV and 2 for German TV - i.e. they are pointing at different satellites, it would be great if I could tell Plex to only use the first 2 and ignore the second 2.
