Workaround for Mac OS X 10.7.5 users who want to use OS X Plexify 1.1 RC.
This is a unofficial workaround, until the author of the app releases the next version of the App, which should hopefully have a fix.
It has been reported by users, rightly so, that Plexify 1.1 RC does not launch in OS X 10.7.5
What worked for me is as follows:
1) Navigate to your Applications folder using Finder and right click on Plexify App and select “Show Package Contents”
2) Navigate to Resources > Base.lproj and copy the 3 files in it
- MainMenu.nib
- PCPopoverController.nib
- Settings.nib
3) Now Paste these 3 files into the Resources folder!
That’s it, try running Plexify now, it should work.
I urge OS X 10.6.8 users to give the above steps a try and post your results, if successful or not for other OS X 10.6.8 users to save time!
Happy Plexifying Lions ;)
UPDATE 1:
Ok, so I have found that Plexify was crashing a bit, using the method above! I decided to investigate and found that when I clicked on “Open Log File”
I found iterations of the below code:
sudo[XXXXX]: USERNAME : TTY=unknown ; PWD=/ ; USER=root ; COMMAND=/Users/USERNAME/Library/Application Support/Plexify/Plexify.bash statusIt seemed to be filling up my log and maybe causing some memory issues and hence causing the crash of the App. So in console(this is what opens up when you click on “Open Log File”, you should click on one of the iterations of the code below:
sudo[XXXXX]: USERNAME : TTY=unknown ; PWD=/ ; USER=root ; COMMAND=/Users/USERNAME/Library/Application Support/Plexify/Plexify.bash statusAnd the select the “Ignore Sender”
The app is not crashing anymore, so far ;) .I believe this would not necessarily be a OS X 10.7.5 workaround specific issue.
For users planning on trying this workaround on OS X 10.6.8, you guys already know that you needed to download and install Python 2.7 to make PlexConnect work. So watch out for paths, wherever you may have changed them, in order to point it to Python 2.7, tricky eh ;), that’s the only complication I can forsee.
If you have your latest PlexConnect folder with all your settings and iMovie and themes and all, already set. Just shut PlexConnect down, Install Plexify and then replace all the files in ~/Library/Application Support/Plexify with your modified PlexConnect files.
This isn't really worth it. Plexify is great but 1.1 RC is VERY buggy so pretty hard to use.

Why are you lying? I have used Plexify1.1 since it´s release on OS X Mavericks and it´s VERY easy to use and never crashed.
So stop spreading lies.

I stopped using plexify when after running it I could just type sudo su in terminal and just log in as root with being prompted for a password. I wouldn't say he is lying when he says it has some bugs. They just need to be worked out in order for this to be a secure app which in my opinion needs to be a top priority. Hopefully in future builds he can address this and fix it so it won't be an issue.

Of course he is lying when he says it´s hard to use when is´s not.
But i´m not surprised that he says that and you come to his defense.
I have nothing more to say about this but i know what program i will never ever use.
You can use whatever app you wish nobody is forcing you to do anything that you don’t want to use. I just like a secure machine, having a secure OSX terminal is a very important thing I would think for everyone. There is other things as well that I’m not going to get into for the sake of keeping this thread calm but I thing you need to take it down a notch there guy. All I was saying is there is some issues with it still that need to be addressed that is all, there is no reason to get upset over a app. If you want to knock other apps just because you wanna say things like that ok but at least other apps or the official method don’t expose root. If you want anyone to have root access by just typing sudo su on your mac have at it. I for one won’t be using it to keep my machine secure.
Im excited about the new version of plexify. I don't have the time to be messing around typing stuff in terminal. I just want things to work right away.
Hopefully it will be fixed to where it doesn’t expose root when using terminal in the new version. How do you update plexify currently without using terminal?

By stopping Plexify and Plexconnect, move certs, copy the new version of Plexconnect over the old, move back certs.
Works for me every time.
Ouch, seems like a headache. I can just click update plexconnect using “another app” or choose auto update. The official method is easy to just type this in terminal assuming it was cloned properly with git:
stop plexconnect
sudo su
type password
cd /plexconnect_folder
git pull
start plexconnect

I would suggest that you choose your words more carefully if you intend to post in this thread again or face a ban.

No it´s no headache much easier for us that never used terminal and don´t want to learn either.
You have talked about this earlier and try to understand that people are different.
What you think is easy it´s not easy for others so stop repeat same thing over and over.
For me this is the easiest way to update because i see what happening.
When i try to use Terminal i never see whats happening.

So to say that someone is lying because i think they are biased breaks any rules?
@Jocko if you don’t want to use the official method to update using terminal there are other methods to update that require much less effort, that’s all I’m trying to tell you nothing more. Tomer is not lying and never said some of the things you said he said. I think you misunderstood him saying buggy as something else.

Downloading a zip-file and unpacking it and move it...very hard :)
If something is easier than the "official" method i do that easier way.
So clicking update plexconnect is hard? Following a guided app and choosing auto update is hard? None of these require terminal whatsoever.
Downloading a zip-file and unpacking it and move it…very hard <-----I assume this was just a joke.

Exactly following YOUR guided app so now i understand why you are here in this thread and posting.
You know what a smile means? Yes i was ironic.

Yes for this particular thread you are breaking the posting guidelines in the first post, we will not have this thread descend into name calling like the last one.
As an FYI the author himself has acknowledged that there are bugs, though these may not cause you any issues on your particular setup (this may be a reason why is is still labelled a RC).

I have a secure terminal free guided automatic or manual updating plexconnect feature that is an app, yes as well as a remote control feature as well to control plexconnect and the Mac OS. What does it have to do with posting in this topic? I have nothing against plexify other then it exposing root which is not secure for anyone's mac. It could use some help in the updating department but hopefully he can fix these issues in future builds if and when he finishes devolpment. I do a lot for the community like making plexconnect work on jailbroken ios devices and also creating easier ways to install plexconnect on jailbroken appletv2's among many other things in my signature as well as providing support to plexconnect users on my free time. What have you done for the plexconnect community lately?

No its´no headache because the way i do it is easier for me so stop arguing.
