Plexify | OS X Application

Let’s keep this on topic please (this thread is for discussing Plexify) or bans will follow.

+1 Plexify is a great app, great work done !

Still happy to use it, love it and am still looking forward the final version.

Just wait people.... Cyberon will come through. I have faith in him. I am a patient Plexify user and I just have this gut feeling he is going to "Wow" us soon with a much anticipated release that will teach us all a lesson. Mark my words. Respect the developer.

Yes I have never understand why people start complaining about things that are. You guys have no idea the time and effort that goes into developing theses things. He did say he is rewriting from scratch. I used to develop android roms. I stopped due to all the people say ■■■■ and saying it needs this and this and wanting it now. This is not the main part of our lives. Let him live his life and do this on his own time. Respect the Developer. Good Things Come To Those That Wait. .

Ghost Cyberon, please forgive the people that are stressing you (and even offending you), because their lifes are so empty that the only way of filling them is complaining the work of the other people, even if this people is working for free (yes, I know we can donate, but it's optional).

For me, Plexify is fantastic. I am a happy user. If you release new versions, I will be very happy. If you don't want release more versions, or you can't do it, I am going to be still a happy user.

If I would had to pay for Plexify, maybe I would claim some new releases, but even if we begin to pay today, it can't be forgotten that you offered first for free.

Hurray for your development!, it has contributed to make Plex more usefull. Keep on the good way, in Plexify or in any other project.

And.. may I finish with... "may the Force be with you"?   ;)

I just don't get what peoples problems are with this - Vaghan, please ignore the less informed and less intelligent! I know how hard you've been working on this, and it wasn't so long ago that you'd had enough of this kind of behaviour and quit the forum! Please stick with it.

Baa and the core PlexConnect team, to me, seem to be the ones that truly dererve all credit for anyone or any app that uses the PlexConnect scripts.

Like Baa pointed out in one of his posts, for me, the OSX launchctl daemon works perfectly!

I do not (I really wish I could be more naive) trust apps that are not open source that feed of the core of someone else's code, like Plexify. No matter how "sexy" it looks. Sharing a video of a iOS app controlling Plexify just makes things worse and raises all kinds of flags for me. Just sharing my thoughts. If Plexify was to be developed under the watchful eye of the PlexConnect core team and was kind of an officially unofficial app, yeah! For now I cannot think of downloading/using much less donating ;)

@Ghost Cyberon if possible, work with the core PlexConnect team, give it your best, don't expect anything and maybe you'll get what you want, just my humble suggestion

@Tomar stop tormenting the kid, really, your not motivating him at all! This is not the way.

@jregueira your too funny man!

@Baa, you will always be my hero :P

I am just sharing my thoughts, pl. don't be offended, anyone!

Cheers,

Jake.

With all due respect, this makes no sense and ignores the point of a front-end for truly unexperienced users. It's also highly despective to people who do hard work only to get dismissed, regardless of the quality, because they choose not to initially share their source code.

If you don't see the usefulness of plexify (and I say this running the launchctl scripts myself) then perhaps you don't have the necessary understanding and empathy to help people in this thread, who want/need a tool like it and are confused as to whether they'll get it.

I'm not offended by your thoughts, but I feel they're a bit insensitive to the needs of several other people just because they don't align with yours and also conveniently ignore that the whole basis for all this is Plex, whose main component is closed-source, which you're supposed not to trust any way.

Also, by your logic (and I don't agree with it), all credit that "should" go to Baa should then really go to the Plex team who actually do the back-end PlexConnect serves as middleware for (again, I think this is as nuts as saying PlexConnect or Cyberon having no credit).

DISCLAIMER: I say this as the coder, myself, of front-ends for open source programs and services.

Wow! Thanks dude... I'll drop out of school and cancel my summer internship at Google. I'll be working from sun up to midnight to please you.

From experience my only piece of advice has to be to do the same other devs and myself have done: Ignore most or all messages in the forums. In the end it's the only way to keep on doing something you do out of love keeping the hate and vitriol outside.

The users who appreciate your work do so, first and foremost, not harrassing you for it (no matter how well-intentioned) and will use more productive channels to show this support (donations, promotion in signature or social media, etc.).

Most complainers, though, will sooner or later find joy in pushing your buttons, because no matter what you do you'll never be able to fulfil their requirements (which usually reflect their own perceived shortcomings, as this kind of feedback comes commonly from non-devs who just want more and more for nothing).

My suggestion is to do like Orca and others have had to to (thanks to the general lack of sympathy and attitude of entitlement of so many): Have a locked thread where updates are given (if you plan to continue) and then participate only sparingly in other threads. Remember why you started doing this and get back to that.

I admit that this attitude is detrimental to the final goal overall, but the alternative is doubly-so due to all wasted discussion and time and ending exhausted from abuse and self-righteousness, so it's an acceptable compromise to me in my own projects now.

You'll see even the Plex devs follow this guideline, albeit very elegantly, where they'll ignore a hundred posts and threads but give their opinion and participate only when there's possibility or actually getting to a productive resolution or advancing an issue forward to it. I admire them for their class when doing this, as they do it so transparently it's almost unnoticeable  :)

We are grateful for your work but you need to stop being a little bi*** and quite whining.  Your not doing it all for free anyways after all, I'm sure some people have made some donation to you for what you've done.

Keep going dude... You're the best!

It's not working for me. Keeps saying "Wrong password! Please change password from settings and restart Plexify".

Strangely, I am never asked for a password...

I had this problem as well. You need to go into the preferences and specify your password first and then go through the setup. A bit counter-intuitive.

Do you think he's making a living from this? He's a student and is just making a bit of beer money is all (time is precious even when young), so everyone quit criticising and be grateful for a first class bit of programming that none of us who make use of it could have done ourselves! Jeezuz what's wrong with people!!

This forum seriously needs some moderation. In all my 22 years on the internet I've never seen such vitriolic and personal attacks on a young programmer who's trying to develop an application that is quite frankly bloody wonderful - I love it and have installed it for numerous clients who would otherwise have never used Plex at all and they are all delighted.

Please let Ghost Cyberon get on with it - I'm willing to wait however long it takes for him to release his final version which I'm quite sure will iron out all the small problems that half the ignoramuses on this forum can't figure out for themselves. If you don't like it - don't use it!

Keep up the good work Ghost Cyberon - you have my full support!

This is the first/last and final warning. Keep this thread clear of personal attacks and unnecessary noise. Focus on testing, reporting bugs and questions regarding the product per se. Everything else is not interesting anymore. Some of you have made it clear that you will not use this anymore because of this and that. Fine. Leave it at that, move on. Those who are willing to try this out, have question and/or contribute to this should stay.

Well said, Atrus!

Those who send me a donation and would like to get a refund, please send me the transaction number and your full name, I'll issue a refund.

Thanks

Cyberon. I just implemented a WebConnect option into my OpenConnect app if your interested maybe this can benefit your app as well. Feel free to use it if you like, the link is in my signature. Just trying to make the best experience for everyone and if this helps you out let me know. I hope we can all work together and make the best experience for everyone. Baa may be looking into it as well. Like always keep up the good work on your app we all appreciate your dedication to making a nice Xcode GUI streamlined app

@wahlman.j Thanks for proposal, but Plexify had that feature even before you started developing OpenConnect.

P.S. Xcode is just an IDE, Objective-C is a language, LLVM is a compiler infrastructure, Cocoa is an application programming interface (API)...
