Thanks for this Addon @cronete, working well with Jarvis on AndroidTV
One question I got, is it normal I don’t see myself on “Now Playing” and Kodi doesn’t show on My devices.
Is it a known limitation ?
Thanks again for the great work

@croneter Tried everything as below. On a sync after enabling direct path it errors building the library. It seems to indicate some kind of authentication error as below (I’ve pm’d you the full logs). Within PKC I entered network credentials for the NAS. I even tried adding guest permissions on the nas share to see if that helped. Could there be any confusion as the PMS is on a PC and the files remote to that on a NAS?
14:49:19 T:18446744071972486032 ERROR: PlexKodiConnect API → askToValidate : Cannot access file: smb://SYNOLOGYNAS/video/Movies/71.mkv

OK guys, couple of notes for direct paths:
- Setup all Plex library folders to point to either something like "\\NAS\movies" OR “smb://NAS/movies”…
- IF you have paths like "\\NAS\movies", go to PKC settings and turn on “substitute Plex paths with smb paths” (or starting tonite “Replace Plex UNC paths \myNas with smb://myNas”).
@croneter Are you talking about going into the XML and directly editing that. I have no options for this in the PKC add-on settingsNo xmls, just use the PKC settings. Choose “Playback Mode” as “Native(direct paths)”. Then:
- Either use “Replace Plex UNC paths \myNas with smb://myNas” (easier)
- or toggle “Replace Plex paths /volume1/media or \myserver\media with custom SMB paths smb://NAS/mystuff” (more complicated but powerful)
Either case, you need to completely resync: Settings → Advanced → Perform local Database reset (full resync).

Thanks! No, PKC should show up on the Now Playing, as should it show up on My Devices. Could you please send me a Personal Message with your kodi logs? (as described in my very first post) thanks!

Thanks for the log.
Try this: on any PC on your LAN, can you open Windows Explorer, paste \\SYNOLOGYNAS\video\Movies\71.mkv in the address bar, hit enter. Does the movie start playing or are you asked to download the movie file? If not, PKC won’t be able to access that file either
Thanks for the reply. Yes, I can confirm posting that in Windows Explorer causes the file to automatically play via VLC. Posting the shortened path \SYNOLOGYNAS\Video\Movies\ brings back the full list of movies as it should

Could it be that Android is not saving the password authentication settings xml on the Bravia? I initially tried to collect the logs myself using ES File Explorer and when navigating to the /sdcard/Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files/.kodi/temp/kodi.log path it was empty. I ended up using an add-on inside Kodi to upload the log.
@croneter Progress on the troubleshooting. I went into PKC settings and removed the network credentials. I then went to the NAS, enabled the guest account with no password (I thought I’d done this but I missed that the account was disabled first attempt). Now after the database reset all of the library items populate as they should.
There seems to be some kind of problem around saving the credentials. Maybe only on Sony Bravia or Android if this works with authentication for others.
This is amazing! Thanks so much for this. Using Path substitution with SMB shares which seems to work really well.

Weird. You could try to manually set your password outside of kodi and PKC: http://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO_talk:Share_libraries_using_MySQL#passwords.xml
PKC does nothing else - it writes your smb credentials into said passwords.xml. Kodi does all the rest
I’m starting to get worried that our space here in this thread runs out. Gosh already more than 500 comments! Thanks so much for your interest guys!!
This is a great plugin and plex desktop apps leave a lot to desire. It will be very popular. My only issue at the moment is the high cpu use when Kodi is running and profiles. Hopefully others will contribute.

I’ve considered posting in the Plex Media Player section to let people know about this project as a good portion of users there are not very happy either with the current state of the only supported desktop app or the direction it’s headed. Not sure if that would upset the developers or not so I’ve held off.
Recapping my only issues, I’ve had to start quiting Kodi when done using it because of the PMS CPU load and also had to drop back to using the default add on mode as opposed to direct paths due to the error message of not being able to find the path for newely added content on startup even though it finds it find afterwards.
Other than that, all is working great!

You should. I was interested in the PMP especially for embedded, but it’s only available for Plex Pass and I just can’t justify spending AUD$200 on it when I don’t transcode or anything. Then when I watched a video, it looks like it’s trying to be like Netflix, which I have no desire for.
I’d also be posting this to the various other channels, like reddit and the kodi forums, quite a few people use PlexBMC but are disgruntled with how it works, this is a better solution.
@Croneter is there going to be any move to have this included in the official kodi repo? I’d love for this to be able to auto-update itself. I think adding it to the repo including dependancies would enable the addon to gain a heap of traction.
I just installed the latest version of SPMC and for unknown reasons, the movie information item is back in the context menu and I also noticed that PlexPy now see the plugin info. This is great!

Kodi does not allow plugins in their repo that touches the DB. Emby isn’t in the official repo either.

Ah bugger, I see. Surely this isn’t classed as ‘touching the database’. Kodi generates it’s own database from the information supplied from Emby/Plex. Anyway, no problems here, I don’t fully understand the rules around the Kodi repo.
I know with Emby you can add the Emby plugin repo, any possibility of that happening with PKC? At least with it’s own repo auto updates are still supported.
That is what the emby developers told me. ANy plugin that alters the DB or something like that.
Hi croneter,
do you plan to release a version that work with Kodi 17.0 in near future?
I am having an issue with 1.0.14. My music library is disappearing after its scanned in properly during a phase where kodi says its reading media information from files. Debug logs sent in private message.
