PlexKodiConnect: Kodi Plex Integration Done Right

Thank you so much for this addon. Works great so far. Are you going to fix transcoding soon? Thats an option I really miss right now.

##Changelog##
version 1.0.16

  • Kodi profiles up and running; try assigning different Plex users per profile!
  • Change “Switch User” to “Log Out Plex User: ”
  • TV shows On Deck: append season and episode number in the settings
  • Shut down PKC correctly (useful for Kodi profiles)
  • Don’t de-authorize if several PMS are present
  • Relabel to “Full PKC reset” in settings

Created a profile to test and can’t get it working. On login of profile it will correctly bring up the list of Plex Home users. I select the user, it goes away and comes back up. I select it again, it goes away and brings up “did you log in to Plex.tv” error. Third time it asks, it dumps me into options and goes away without ever connecting. However, there is an improvement on my end: first profile works even with the second profile on 16. If I go back to original profile, it logs in correctly and plays. Just can’t get the second one working.

Edit: Log: http://xbmclogs.com/prybojysk

Did you try with a “separate” second Kodi user profile in order to have complete dedicated settings and libraries?

Yup, I’ll try it again tonight on my windows testbuild where I can start fresh

Hmm, I see the problem. With the new user, apparently you never chose a PMS. How did you end up there?!? :stuck_out_tongue:

While being logged in with your new Kodi profile, try Settings → Connection → Reset PMS and plex.tv connections to re-login

I use a local LAN PMS which I would imagine would be the majority of use cases, and I’ve always found PKC to be very finnicky with it. I usually have to go through a bunch of error messages and into the config screen to put in the IP address of my server, and then wait a minute or 2 for it to connect. PKC error handling doesn’t seem to account for this kind of setup because it always gives me a few errors before letting me get to that screen to IP it. Maybe it’s related. I think I’ve already tried your recommendation but I’ll give it another shot and let you know

Profiles are working fine. The last thing on my list is the higher than normal cpu use. The server is using 2x more electricity because of it so I disabled constant sync.

What are the disadvantages of disabling the constant sync? How often is fullsync initiated?

You should NOT have to get through many error messages, except if your PMS is not visible in the LAN (GDM discovery not working/turned off).
First plex.tv login screen aside, PKC tries to connect to your local LAN without tokens. If that is unsuccessful, you’re thrown back to plex.tv login, because that’s the only way to get a valid token. Tokens become necessary e.g. if you have several Plex users

Same situation. Everything seems to be working perfectly except for the CPU load issue. I just quite Kodi when Im not using it. Ideally would rather keep it up and running 24/7 like I used to.

@Deihmos I believe PKC does a resync on its own ever 30 minutes if I remember correctly?

@croneter, is the CPU load issue something you think you might be able to rectify in the futre?

My PMS does have 2 Plex Home users. GDM discovery is on tho. Sometimes I do get a popup that shows my server so I think the GDM works

Good to hear.

If you disable background sync, you won’t see any new PMS items or resume point updates of imtes (someone else watching stuff) until a full sync takes place (automatically every ~30 minutes or when you switch Plex user).
Currently, turning off background sync will also turn off automatic full syncs. You’d have to do manual syncs (or switch Plex users).

First thanks for all the work your putting into this. Now onto my question. pkc works great when scanning the files on the internal drives of my pms. Takes a cpl minutes to scan the 500 or so files.

When it gets to the nas that has the drives mapped and added to pms, it slows to a crawl. 10-15 files a minute. The nas is not very powerful and i dont know if thats the issue or if it has to do with that direct path stuff i dont understand.

If its a thats just how fast its going to be, thats fine. But can you export the library and import it into another kodi install? at this rate will take me a week just to get it on all the kodis i have around the house.

Hope all that made sense.

Ok, tried this, was asked to input pin at Plex. Clicked yes. I get “Could not find any Plex server in network. Aborting…” (This happens to me all the time and only after this error do I ever get a pop up screen with my usernames to log in). Hit OK. Dumped back to config, I enter the IP of my PMS in options here. Hit OK. Immediately get taken to select user screen. Click my wife’s account. Goes back to select screen. Click again, get error ‘failed to authenticate, did you login to plex.tv?’ Hit OK, asked one more time to choose between my users, choose wife’s account, nothing happens, back to config screen – so same as before.

Just for feedback, I also use a local LAN PMS from a Windows PC. I’ve never encountered error messages or delays in connecting within PKC. Under connection I initially defined the IP of my PMS host PC, left all other values at default. It instantly connects and builds/updates the library. I choose not to sign in to Plex.tv automatically at logon. I never bothered with signing in to plex.tv at all, no pin entered within PKC as everything is local to my network.
Is everything on the same subnet? Firewall not blocking PMS?

This is only a setup issue, and is workable, except as here with the second profile. Yep, no firewall issue, same subnet, nothing fancy. I’ll test it out on a fresh windows build later.

On deck works fine and isn’t On Deck the equivalent to Next Up or recently added? I don’t get it.

Recently added works fine. On deck doesn’t show movies actually on deck according to server, just other random movies. I’m on kodi Isengard if that makes a difference?

I just tried it and it on deck agrees with the server. I am on Kodi 16.1

Such great dev work. PMS now displays what is currently playing. The iOS companion app now also displays correct info, tag information and full playback control.
For me, the Home Shelf items doesn’t show, is this where the TV Shows On Deck should appear? It could be a skin issue, I use Amber.

■■■■, then it must be that :frowning:

Problem is I’m using 15.2 EGL special build with superior video rendering and decoding capabilities compared to jarvis. These things will be included in krypton but krypton doesn’t work with PKC yet.

I am not a fan of that skin. What you can do is add a shortcut to on deck because the skin does not have an option to configure the shelf items. Or better yet get a skin that offers more options like artic zep and many others.

I think Silvaire and I still face the same problem. As long as we specify the IP, we can connect. However, via Plex.tv it is not working. That was not really a big problem, as we had to run the configuration only one time at time beginning and as kodi and PMS are in the same Lan and in my case even on the same PC it was no problem at all. However, with the user switching I see this old problem popping up again.

If u refer with superior video rendering to the dsplayer build, then u can use a 16.1 RC version without problems
