PlexKodiConnect: Kodi Plex Integration Done Right

I have some of my medtadata for Tv and movies only in Plex (some is in the media directories). All I want to do is have Kodi show/use the Plex metadata. It sounds like this will do that?

Other than syncing status (watched, etc), can I not use other features or will it affect other things in Kodi?

##Changelog##
version 1.0.15

  • Enable external Plex subtitles if available
  • TV On Deck: option to include show name
  • Playback updates now if an item is resumed
  • Fix PMS not being informed of playback stop
  • Fix playback updates for remote PMS
  • Deactivate info “Gathering information from files” for Music
  • Updated readme

Known issues/bugs

  • Constant PKC background sync polling can put strain on certain PMS
  • Plex Music: direct paths don’t work yet
  • Plex Music: Kodi still tries to gather information for every single song, due to very unfortunate coincidences in the way Kodi and Plex are working (Plex puts each song in a “dedicated folder”, e.g. ‘http://192.168.1.1:32400/library/parts/749450/’. Kodi unsuccessfully tries to scan these folders). Please share your experiences with your Plex Music setup. Maybe it ain’t that bad
  • Some widgets appear broken, e.g. Movies On Deck. I have no idea why
  • Often, a context menu is unavailable

Again thank you for this great addon! One question from a Music perspective, can you still specify native paths and leave the Music paths blank/null or if you specify native paths you have to define for all? Just curious before I go down this road again given my Music library is very large, ~3TB

Given the issues around the Music section my thinking if you leave the paths for Music blank the addon will scan the section via the addon default?

Thanks!

That will not work:

  • Not using direct paths: you can’t specify the “virtual” folders Plex uses, no matter what you do. I would still be very interested in the results with your 3 TB
  • Using direct paths: currently not working as Kodi deletes all song links immediately from the library, for whatever reasons

EDIT: If your goal is to simply skip Plex Music, simply tell PKC to deactivate Plex Music wenn first setting up PKC. Or go to Settings → Advanced → Sync Options → “Enable Music Library” later

Goal is to Include Music - currently I am in the process of scanning again and will let you know.

Thanks

FIrst, he could not find my movies, eventhough everthing is correct, but the he added the movies anyways. Music takes as expected ages. Will report later

Just reinstalled 1.0.15 over 1.0.14, did a full re-scan but still not showing on ‘Now playing’ do I need to reinstall ?

Try this:

Settings - advanced - Perform full database reset (full resync), then 3x yes

If it still doesn’t work, please send logs with plex companion logging enabled

Installing 1.015 over 1.0.14 made the movie information context menu disappear again… If this can help, it came back in 0.14 when I updated my version of SPMC.

The CPU use is lot lower than it was before. It kept spiking at 10% now it stays less than 1%. Did you figure out what was causing it? edit - back up to 10%

Thanks @croneter for your continued efforts on improving PlexKodiConnect.

I have just tried version 1.0.15 and found out that if you reset your Library, there is one popup message that still mentions Emby.

Additionally, even though external srt subtitles already present on the Plex server are now made available by the plug-in, they all show as “Unknown” and not the correct language.

Given your track record, I’m quite sure this will be fixed in the near future.

does this work on Openelec? been testing on Windows but when i tried to install the movies and tvshow zip says dependencies not met.

Install the 2 dependencies first, then the main zip. You are either doing it in the wrong order, or have downloaded the wrong files – check the github instructions

  • Don’t de-authorize if several PMS are present
  • Relabel to “Full PKC reset” in settings

Created a profile to test and can’t get it working. On login of profile it will correctly bring up the list of Plex Home users. I select the user, it goes away and comes back up. I select it again, it goes away and brings up “did you log in to Plex.tv” error. Third time it asks, it dumps me into options and goes away without ever connecting. However, there is an improvement on my end: first profile works even with the second profile on 16. If I go back to original profile, it logs in correctly and plays. Just can’t get the second one working.

Did you try with a “separate” second Kodi user profile in order to have complete dedicated settings and libraries?

As far as I’m concerned, On Deck is working for both movies and tv shows ;-). What do you think needs improvement?

Hmm, I see the problem. With the new user, apparently you never chose a PMS. How did you end up there?!? :stuck_out_tongue:

While being logged in with your new Kodi profile, try Settings → Connection → Reset PMS and plex.tv connections to re-login
