Does 1.2.4 fetch posters as well as fan art? Asking because most sets do have artwork now, but none have posters. Thanks guys.

It should be gathering posters…it certainly was when I posted my screenshots earlier on and submitted my pull request to @croneter. I have not tested 1.2.4 yet though but would expect it to be working the same. I’ll check with 1.2.4 this weekend but if others can either confirm/reject that posters are not being shown for sets please post here.

@im85288 - I can confirm, set posters & fanart downloaded for me during the initial 1st sync… it does seem to have missed a few… these few I would have thought would have been captured as they are defo ‘norm’ sets (American Pie, The Inbetweeners’) etc… EDIT: to confirm, they are correctly grouped into the correct sets, just missing the art.

whats the best way to re-sync for Set art? presume. It should pick up changes detected and re-sync at startup? just trying to ascertain if its just the initial sync that applies the set art?

@Deihmos - my understanding is that there is a default Kodi node for In-Progress TV shows and the option to add the Plex TV Shows On-Deck as a node. You can also create your own custom Kodi playlists… so you should have lots of options for following your TV progress… if your half way through watching a TV show, its In-progress and if you watch it to the end, the next episode shall appear as In-progress.

I’m no expert, running PKC, with braz’s mimic skin for Kodi 18, working very well.

@im85288 - thanks for next up, works really nicely ! (how did I not see this b4 !!)

@im85288 - as a feature request, is it possible to scrape the set metadata description info? (much like how a plot might be shown)

Yes exactly, the add-on “simulates” having a local kodi library so best to use it like that. There is no need to use the on deck node as that is not what keeps things in sync. Anyway I don’t want to go into too much detail but suffice to say using the standard “next episode” is what you should be doing here. Kodi knows you have watched an episode and then knows what the next one to watch will be…PKC just keeps that all in sync with your PMS server. Also using the standard kodi way let’s you benefit from using my next up add-on for kodi for ultimate binge watching

@im85288 I’m using the skin fTV-Fred and my On Deck node isn’t updating (this used to work, but stopped a a couple of PKC versions ago). After reading your post, I tried to look for the “next episode” to add on my home screen widget, but it’s nowhere to be found, any ideas?

@MartinAyla - the confusion may be that from what I can tell the Kodi ‘node’ is not actually called ‘next episode’ …unless I am mistaken its called ‘TV Shows In-Progress’.

@mini.PLEX I think I already tried that and that it showed the TV Show in progress not the episode?

@MartinAyla - arrhhh yes! I think you could be right there, that sounds familiar…

Like yourself I’m actually using the Plex ‘On-Deck’ node to keep an eye on TV In-Progress episodes. I have not noticed any ‘not updating issues’ as you reported though… shell keep an eye on it.

Im sure im85288 shall confirm what he means by ‘next episode’.

On a general level, I think there are two kind of PKC users:

  1. people who use Kodi, like using Kodi and want to get some of the advantages of Plex on Kodi, but they are first and foremost “Kodi users”.
  2. people who like Plex and would use Plex clients over Kodi clients, but don’t have a Plex client for their device or they want to use some of the Kodi features for playback (like h265  ) but they are overall “Plex users”.

I think people in the 2nd group (like me) don’t want to have to learn all about Kodi to have it substantially work like a plex client and nothing more. They don’t care about downloading other fanart or poster art or plots when they already have their PMS well populated, they don’t care or don’t want to learn all the neat tricks that you can do on Kodi with plugins. They just want to have a good “plex client” experience from Kodi, and are going to use the nodes from PKC like the “On deck” node because they are consistent with the Plex experience, not find a “more kodi” way to do it. Maybe it’s a wrong, close minded attitude, but when dealing with PKC issues I think it’s something that must be taken into account.

@zpaolo11x - some fair points… from my point of view I love Plex Server, its 2nd to none. But have found over many years PHT and now PMP to be more and more restricted to their UX roadmap (thats when I started investigating Kodi, due to lack of PLEX customisation). I can understand the PLEX roadmap and well respect it… they want the Plex experience to look & feel the same on every app/device. PMP is shaping up really great and I’m sure shall be a standout app for years to come.

for me PKC now supports a (long awaited) bridge between a great Plex Server and great Kodi Skins that Kodi lovers can customise to their hearts content.

Hi guys just a quick reply as I’m at work

Yes the term ‘Next Episode’ was confusing…what I was trying to say is just use the default that your favourite skin uses for showing the in progress/next up episodes. eg confluence etc…believe me there is no need to add any custom nodes. This addon makes it all plug and play, so if you have ever used kodi with your own media it works the same with this addon.

@mini.PLEX - as for set plot info that’s something your chosen skin should take off…for example look at my screenshots and you see it has the set plot info shown. The basic ones like confluence/estuary probably do not do this…but pick a skin that uses the amazing skin helper addon and it will make your life much easier, eg rotten tomatoes/metacritic ratings etc etc

I fall somewhere in between the two IMO. I initially had a plex server set up on my laptop and loved that it was easy to use and scraped data pretty well yet also let you edit misidentified media easily as well. I also liked that it kept my media in sync between devices, like starting a movie on the roku client, stopping it and being able to pick up right where I left off on a mobile device. When I decided to build a htpc, I knew Kodi was the way to go as a front end, but that it didn’t cover the same ground as a server that plex did. Thankfully some good, smart people developed a plex server plugin and now also PKC so that Kodi and plex are on the same system that acts as a htpc and server. Kodi is a great piece of software in itself, but I never liked how tedious it was trying to get the correct metadata for media.

Could not have said it better myself, kodi is hands down most advanced front end there is (due to it’s age and the amount of contributors who keep on improving it), coupled with plex as the back end is a marriage made in heaven

Just a quickie - I’ve installed a nightly build of Kodi 17 to test. I get the message that this version is unsupported see logs when I run through the setup. I guess that at the moment it won’t work on 17 - hopefully soon?

Kodi 17 is yet in heavy development. Things on the Kodi side change overnight, e.g. how the database is structured.
Hence it’s impossible for PKC to keep up with the nightlies. Or even worse, if I changed PKC to accommodate for the latest kodi changes, all people using an older kodi 17 version would be screwed…

Manual workaround for you: Latest Kodi Krypton not working, Library sync · Issue #56 · croneter/PlexKodiConnect · GitHub

Many thanks for the reply - great add on! I think I’ll wait until 17 becomes a little more settled and then try again.

Hello,

I am sorry if this has been asked and answered before, but I did not want to go through 66 pages of posts, and could not find it via a Google search. How do I have PKC download all of the extra artwork that Plex doesn’t use/show, but that Kodi does? Like logo, banner, clearart, extrafanart, etc. I have all of those files locally in each movie folder, but I don’t know how to have PKC put them in the Kodi database so that Kodi shows them. I am using addon paths, so addons like Artwork Downloader wil not work.

Thank you for any help!

Regards,

Bart

I don’t think it will use local artwork but could be wrong on this especially since you are using addon paths.

You can just do a “reset of the database” in PKC and will download all the extra artwork from fanartTV ( set by default) unless you turned it off.

Thanks! I will try this tonight when I get home.

Perform Manual Library Sync

If i navigate to the plexkodiconnect node the above menu item is there but it doesn’t seem to do anything. Am I wrong?

Track Artist

I had an album that erroneously was split into two artists (first last & last, first). I editted the track and discovered that it was the only item that had the TRACK ARTIST field filled in. I deleted that field entry and Plex put the track back with the rest of the album and with the correct artist. But I can’t seem to get pkc to sync the change back to Kodi. I made this change three days ago and nothing has been updated in Kodi.
I’d rather not have to rebuild the music library cause it took hours the first time.
Any suggestions?

It does scan your library but the Kodi notice might have been deactivated.

Plex sometimes doesn’t tell that you changed certain items (to be specific, certain attributes). Might have been the root cause of your problems.

Try PKC settings, Advanced, repair local database. Runs quicker than a resync
