Plexmedia destroys the LAB
as soon as I start my plexmediaserver on my TrueNAS, the local network becomes unusable. No more devices are found on the LAN until I disconnect the TrueNAS Core from the network.
The plexmedia plugin gets its IP through a DHCP server. For a few days the media server worked. After reading a large amount of music and video files into the media library, first my external hard drive went down. After reboot, the network is now disturbed.
My first attempt to install Plexmedia also showed the same behavior. So still completely without any content in the library.
Not saying this is or will fix your problem. However, I believe it is bad practice for any server, service, or infrastructure device to get it’s IP address from a DHCP server. All server addresses should be manually assigned outside of the DHCP address pool or reserved from the pool so that a server always has or is assigned the same IP address after any restart of the server or LAN segment.
I have installed my Plexmedia on my TrueNAS. The setup via a NAT definition is very unreliable. So I have chosen a DHCP way. The media server I was able to start again after I fixed in my PiHole The IPs of the devices that matter.
Thank you for confirming my approach.
