Reverting back to plexmediaserver-1.40.5.8897 fixes the problem.

Would it be possible to make this an option? It’s not bad, different, but not bad.
Please make it an option. It makes much more sense to me for it to show the poster of the season you’re watching rather than the main series poster.
Not to me I’d suggest creating a feature request and then have folks vote on it if they want it. This has been confirmed as a bug I look forward to when its fixed.
BTW… I’m all for an option, however my worry always with plex is their willingness to just force change on us. Just look at the whole watched vrs unwatched debacle, its divided the community pretty much down the middle.
This!! A thousand times this!!! Gives us the option to show either the show poster, the season poster or the episode thumb. For me, it makes much more sense to either show the season poster or the episode thumb.
Episode thumb would be good too, never thought of that. Would make all the effort I’ve gone through to change a load of them using Kometa more worthwhile.

Make it as a feature. Or an option in settings, as there’s literary no use for season posters at all.
Also there’s different bug too, when show is in progress it switches from season to show poster

Make it an option in settings please. And also how often the cast of a show changes season to season, so it’s nice to have the poster show the cast of people that might actually be in the episode you’re about to watch, instead of someone who died in season 1 or something.
Possible responses to this:
Like Plex really can see what the poster image is, and monitors the current plot of the show to know who’s still alive. LOL.
If you use the default (autopicked) poster and refresh your metadata occasionally, the poster may get changed too, to a newer image. Plex cannot control what the image is, though.
“Yeah well, that’s just, like, your opinion, man” – many people want the original promotional image for a program as the poster, regardless of what happens in the run. Nay, some would consider an image that shows characters added or missing a spoiler.
You can always change the poster yourself when someone gets killed off. I suppose you want Plex to also monitor where you are watching the program to make sure the poster doesn’t change before you see the episode?
This bug seems to be back in latest version.
An option would be nice (I would NOT use it) but please never require season posters as the continue watching poster… Season posters are very poor quality when initially added and to achieve nice sets the server admin would need to spend days - if not weeks - hand curating them. I would rather see season posters be removed entirely to simplify administrating large libraries (but as an option for those who want it).

It’s essential. How many years do you want to see the same general poster; besides casts change with seasons often reflected in posters. I asked for this feature years ago and when it does appear it’s a mistake?! Don’t think so. Bring it already
Eliminate season posters entirely?! … seriously this isn’t something to troll we’re trying to make progress here. An accidental step forward shouldn’t be the trigger for two steps back
I would appreciate it if you didn’t accuse me of trolling. I thought the suggestion of seasonal posters being the default continue watching poster was trolling too and yet here we are.
I highly value consistency when administrating systems (or in this case my Plex server) so my users aren’t confused by bad UI, and seasonal posters are bad UI because they’re not curated. I find they’re often in foreign languages and/or don’t match their adjacent season posters. For a server with 500 shows, assuming each show has 5 seasons, the server admin would have to manually apply 2500 posters to ensure no low quality seasonal posters make it through. It is an obscene amount of work.
And to be clear - I was not advocating removing seasonal posters. I was just providing this view as feedback for my resounding “please God no” towards making seasonal posters the default in continue watching. But since users are asking for a toggle to enable this, I asked for a toggle to completely remove them while the engineers are looking that way.
