You probably missed one small step (which is VERY common)
To remedy this:

Uninstall the DSM 7 app and select the ERASE option
– This removes the empty DSM 7 Plex instance you’re now seeing -
Open FileStation
**The most important points here are:
- Full Control
and - Apply to this folder, sub-folders, and files
as you give the new username PlexMediaServer control over everything in the Plex shared folder
(DSM 7 took away all the privileges I had for DSM 6. This is why you need to assist by granting permission manually)
