PlexPy - Notifications Issues

Hello,

I’ve currently got PlexPy up and running on my PMS and I get email notifications to my users regarding Recently Added movies etc. Though emails seem to work there, I can’t seem to get PlexPy to notify via email when the PMS is down and/or comes back up. Other than having Email notifications turned on, is there something separate I need to be doing to get emails about those events? I see where I can edit the text in those, but I don’t see anywhere to ENABLE them. I’ve gotta be missing something. Pulling my hair out, please help!?!?! lol

For Plex Media Server Down/Up, you only need to enable the notifications under the bell icon.

PlexPy waits 3x the monitoring interval (default would b e 3x60 = 180 seconds) to see if it can reconnect before sending the notification.

@JonnyWong16 I’m knew to PlexPy so bear with me. I’ve got the Email Notifications Bell turned ON. I don’t see anything relative to Plex Media Server Down/Up anywhere other than the spot where I can change the message that gets triggered. Help!

That’s it. If the bell icon is on, then it’s set up. Go shut down your Plex Media Server, and wait 3 minutes to see if you get an email. (PlexPy needs to be running),

If you don’t get an email, post your complete log file to pastebin so I can take a look. (Click your log file on the “Help & Info” page.)

@JonnyWong16 - I tried doing that last night. Never received an email. I’m
getting emails for Recently Added but not for anything else. Craziness! lol

Read the rest of my post. I edited it after you replied.

@JonnyWong16 Here’s the Paste Bin. I cleared the Log Files, rebooted everything, opened Plex and then PlexPy and then shut down Plex. Waited for about 5 minutes (no emails :frowning: ) and then I grabbed these logs.

Hoping you see my issue. Thanks in advance!

That’s not your complete log file. Click your log file on the “Help & Info” page.

@JonnyWong16 Sorry about that. Had an issue with it copying everything I selected.

Here’s the new link: http://pasted.co/4e2a3b55

Thanks again!

Hm…I think it’s a bug on my part.

So what do I do from here?

But I just tested it on my setup and it did work. You’re 100% sure you have “Notify on Plex server down” and “Notify on Plex server back up” checked under the bell icon for email notifications?

I guess just wait for the next update.

Holy Cow! I never noticed that the Bell was clickable! I thought it was simply and On/Off feature! So sorry for wasting your time!

You must have clicked it to set up recently added notifications though?

I did click it to set up recently added notifications. I’ve just been having early mornings and late nights.
I guess I simply overlooked it. Thanks so much!

My question is this. If i lose power and Plex goes down, I want my friends to get a notification that the server is down. However if Plex.py is running on the computer that lost power, I assume it wont send out the notification, for obvious reasons. Any way around this?

You could try this amazon.com/APC-BE550G-Back-UPS-8-outlet-Uninterruptible/dp/B0019804U8

Hah, I suppose this solves the one particular case I described. But i had a larger concern, for example when internet is down at my house, or when my computer that runs plex needs to be restarted, etc. Basically my plex server itself never really goes down, its the computer that its running off of that does. And since plex.py is also running on the same computer, that means the notifications never go out. I guess unless plex.py was running on a separate device (not even sure thats possible), or running on the “cloud”, there would be no way for it to do what I am asking.

You can run PlexPy remotely.

@JonnyWong16 I’ve been running PlexPy smoothly since April. I LOVE IT! But alas, suddenly, for some reason I’m not receiving emails of any sort from it. I haven’t changed anything except my email account password, but I’ve updated PlexPy with that today as a troubleshooting method…Still…NOTHING.

Then I tried going to Google’s Two-Factor Authentication page (since I do use 2-factor on my gmail account) and getting the special password and putting that in there as well. Nothing.

In the logs, I’m not seeing that PlexPy is even trying to send anything. No bad authentication messages etc…Nothing.

Tried using the TEST email button…Nothing. No email and no logs showing that it tried.

Halp!
