I don’t much care about any bloating. (plus anyone concerned about it need not add any of these new media types to their library)
I just want one place to access all of my media. Film, TV, Music, Pictures, Books, Audiobooks, Comics.
All in one app, with one UI that I know and love. That I can stream to all of my other devices.
That’s sounds like a lot to ask for, but considering the only thing missing from that request is an ePub/mobi/pdf reader and better audio management (resume play for audiobooks) I don’t think it’s impossible. Far from it. We’re nearly there. And we’ve been asking for it for a long time.
That’s want I want though. I’m 100% happy with all other facets of the app. To me everything else is a nice to have, whereas this would be true core functionality, and nobody else comes close to the slickness of Plex.

I currently use Calibre on my iMac for organising my book library, and then have Calibre server running in a FreeNAS jail which I can access from my Kindle to download the books I want to read. Not that much more convenient than connecting it to the iMac, unless I’m away from home and run out of reading material!
+1 I have been thinking this would be amazing for my tablet and phone apps as well as maybe a text to speech feature on tv so it can read the book to us… 
What’s the count at the moment, and how many Plex pass users are there? I’m in offcourse, but already signed
Are there any updates on this? By implementing ebook and other document types support, Plex Media Server will then be the one and only all-encompassing media server on the planet!

Plex doesn’t give updates, or share their timeline or plans. I’m sure if/when the feature is implemented, the forum will be awash with comments. As this would be a pretty significant feature addition, I imagine it will also be widely announced on the blog and email newsletters.

Would love this feature since Comicrack’s dev has pretty much given up on the app and hasn’t updated any features in a while. I’d be great if it could incorporate syncing and organizing like Comicrack from my Mylar Folders

Why do you think this? Especially the purchasing part.
I agree with @TwistedDruid by that logic plex should be able to purchase videos, music and all other media it supports. I don’t need to have purchase support I would just like a platform that allows me to view my ebooks like I do with movies and music I already have and view on Plex.
Simple, I am done carrying multiple devices when traveling. The purchasing part is just a standard web-app so all Plex would have to do is on their IOS or Android App give us access to a browser. Perhaps what Plex really needs to do is make a deal with Amazon and other e-reader providers to allow downloads to a Plex application?
@RandyJCA I don’t know if I agree with needing that. I think it would kind of go against everything Plex is about. Allowing for purchasing stuff just makes them have to go through more red tape. Plus they haven’t done any deals with any of the video stores yet we all use their service for it.
I’d agree about the purchasing stuff. I voted for this simply as a way to catalogue and read e-books, which is pretty much what I use Calibre for at the minute. Can’t see how that would be much different from Movies or TV programmes, other than collecting metadata from a different source and a client that can open various e-book files (e.g. .mobi, .epub, etc.)
@adrianwi just to clarify you think there should be purchasing options? For meta data on comics I figured the PMS could use the API sourcing from ComicVine kind of like ComicRack does. I’ve been using ComicRack for my storage, syncing, and tagging of meta data but it seems the developer has lost interest in it.
