PLEXREADER: Comics, Books, PDFs

+1… Hopefully this will be the next big addition to Plex.

+1 to infinity!

This feature would be awesome. Adding ebook support would reduce the need for other applications. Having ebook support would also reduce the need for storing so much media on small devices {phone, tablet, etc}.

I want this to be a reality!

how many likes will it take? how many posts will it take? this is a much needed feature.
please stop neglecting the books, think on the children. they need ebook severing and management, their portable devices are starved for knowledge, help the children to read…

+1 Plex is great and adding ebook support would mean that all of my media would be in one place.

+1 there is no alternative to this, unlike podcasts where every platform has 5 players.

I haven’t figured out how to vote for this but would love to see ebook media supported. Similar to Calibre. That would round out this already great media server.

+1 Alexa, please for sending by backdoor the motivation to the big team of developer Plex to answer the requests of all these users plex

Thx Alexa   :stuck_out_tongue:

Alexa : Sorry but I did not succeed has to contact a person from PLEX

Would be nice to know a dev has actually seen this and considered it.

+1 I’d still like to see this feature.

There are agents out there for metadata for eBooks as well as comics, the thing all of those are missing is integration with Plex, progress tracking features, multi-user support. Ubooquity and Calibre are good in the interim, but if we’re adding podcasts and VR, this is still a feature Plex can use. Once added Anyone can now host a chunk of free books at that point, all the classics that are out of copyright. Pitch it as a “Summer/Lifetime Reading Program” or putting the Library back in Media Library. Metadata from books and comics are available from a few places out there.

  1. Indexing and Progress Tracking of reads on Books/Comics.

  2. Focus on syncing the items offline to tablet/phone.

  3. Give the option to use external players (Comicat or FBReader work well if you don’t want to write a phone-side client)

  4. Formats: Doesn’t have to convert, just display

Book: epub, LIT, PDF, ODF, MOBI...
       Comic: cbz/zip/cbr/rar/cbt/tar/cb7/7z/pdf/djvu

All Plex needs to be perfect. I’ll even forgive them for Plex Cloud.

New forms seem to have reset the vote count, this request has been here since 2013 come on plex give books a little love!

Wow, like CrazyHat said, the count was reset…previously was around 1300+…seems like a nice way to bury the most requested feature.

Running Ubooquity but I’d much rather just serve comics with Plex.

19 Votes ?
Did they do it intentionnally ?

I am quite convinced that they will never devellop that feature…
While it is suggested since years by an important number of users.

+1 I want Plex to break ground and dominate digital media platform. E-books will push them over the edge.

Books are the only media left out of my Plex server. I even managed to put audio-book in Plex with the right plugins. But, I use Calibre, just like you do for Ebooks/Comics/PDFs. Unfortunately, I think the interface is not as great as Plex and it is harder to share with friends / family that way. I would really like to have an all in one media platform.

I would be a big fan of ebook and comic support in Plex. Currently I have to sync a portable Calibre installation and my manually managed comic book library on a cloud, and I think Plex would be able to handle this very well. It doesn’t have to be a flagship feature and Plex can well remain a premium media management service. After all, Plex supports newsfeeds, podcasts, and live TV, why not ebooks and comics?

Side request, if ebook filetypes do ever get support, hope that MOBI files would be one of them!
