PLEXREADER: Comics, Books, PDFs

One more vote for me…I really need that!!

At least can we have a word from the dev team please?

I wonder if the dev team doesn’t want to go to this feature because it is too much development and there isn’t enough “meta data sources” to provide the “Plex Experience”. (I mean, I understand them if they consider they can provide a nice UI but cannot provide the great UX we are used to.)

Maybe it is because it seems weird to show comic books on a TV screen… (Personnaly, I use a lot plex with my iPad Pro 12,9… so it would be perfect.)

Nevertheless, if it is a reason of cost, I would consider to pay for an extra plugin or another application (lets say 30$ for a lifetime Plex Books Pass).

I will do so too!,
I do no know if admin are looking at this discussion,
I would love to have at least a feedback, if it is something to give up or one day this will happen, what’s the feedback of the dev. team since this discussion started 5 years ago+.
Definitly if need to pay extra i willing to do it as well for a complete full media center server

Second most voted feature suggestion and no reply from the devs, that’s sad.

Yes please! When I’m away from home I’d love to be able to open Plex on my Android tablet and look for an eBook/pdf/epub to read if I’m not feeling like watching a movie, show or live television. It would be an amazing feature and save me having to manually download the pdf then open it in one of the many, many disgusting reader applications. To this day I still haven’t found a decent pdf viewer or ebook reader. Plex would be perfect! could have blurbs and information about the book just like movies and tv shows!

Any updates on this? I would love to be able to read my digital comics through Plex. I just found the ComicReader plugin. Going to test it out, but it looks like the last update on its Github page was from 2016. A more official reader implementation would be nice…

An other Plex Pass member want this feature in his Plex.
Please!!!

I’m a Plex pass member, I would like this feature as well. Comic Books , EPUBs, all of the like is still just another form of media. Plex Media Server should be versatile enough to distribute all kinds of media.

I would definitely be interested, as well, but add .cbr and .mobi to the supported formats list. Currently using eBookMobi in IOS; not a great application but only one that supports all the formats I need.

+1 for me. Would really love this.

6 Years later.

Dear Plex Team,

Please put this on the Roadmap for this Year!

Much appreciated!

Cheers

Hi,
I would love to have a book (epub & pdf) and comics (cbz, cbr & pdf) support in Plex.
Priority 1 : The library part (name, date, author, cover) and search
Priority 2 : Sync/Offline
Priority 3 : Reader

Emby has support for books now.

I would love to see this added has a library option, i currently use a comic book reader plugin and i have converted all my pdfs, epubs etc into cbr files so they all function, but it does not have offline sync. But plugins are no longer supported and no more updates will be done to plugins. So would be nice to see this this added with offline sync

Add me to the list of people that would like to have a book (epub; pdf) and comics (cbz, cbr; pdf) official support in Plex, with both library (name, date, author, cover) and reader.

And yes, Emby has support for books now. As Plex has dropped support fot the plugins, I think it is important to create an officilal alternative…

Yup. Add that functionality and you can count me in for a Plex Pass.

I don’t want zip/rar/cbz/cbr support… I need pdf support though…

Random magazines dotted around on my hard drive… instruction manuals, bills and other stuff…

Would it work on my smart tv? Would be amazing if it could… not looked into Panasonic filetype support as of yet…

Recipes on my google home hub would be good if the recipes were stored on my computer and could be cast from my phone…

a metadata scraper might be a bit of a problem though the ability to see a document anywhere would be a good idea…

It looks like a small add-on. The appeal of being able to have all your media in one place is what Plex is all about. Especially considering that there are Podcasts, News and even Plugins already available.

This would be amazing. I don’t know if there’s a way to have this sync out to various e-readers (e.g. kindle) but it would be awesome. I have loads of books sitting in google drive because iBooks is horribly invasive, I’m too lazy to manually upload everything to kindle, and not every format is supported. If you could do on-the-fly format conversion based on the reader similar to what is done for video I would pay for the lifetime subscription in a heartbeat.

+1 This would be awesome!

+1 I would love something like calibre in Plex to manage EBooks, it already has a database lookup feature built in.
