When it comes to comics, the app that comes the closest to doing what Plex does is ComicRack.
I have over 3200 .cbr/.cbz files (130GB) on my NAS, and Iāve found ComicRack - with the ComicVineScraper and Library Organizer plugins - a true blessing for managing my collection.
ON PC - all the books get scraped/proper metadata applied, and organized. Then I move them to my NAS, where ComicRack is pointed. When I open ComicRack - there they all are - displayed intuitively (just like Plex does to my video media.
Bonus (and what I find nowhere else) - I can then create reading lists in CR - meant for my devices - then sync the files to those devices over my local network to the ComicRack App on my Android OR Apple Tablet (or phone - but thatās too small for decent comic viewing).
Until Plex adopts anything - folks may wish to explore the aboveā¦
The āworkflowsā are very similar - so it feels natural to look to PLEX for similar functionality (with a different media type): I use a third-party app to (permanently) apply metadata, then move the files to my NAS, then point Plex at it.
Their are also several regulraly maintained APIās/databases for comic related media just like their are for movies/TV/Music.
IMHO, the digital comic space is sorely in need of a āsingle solutionā for locally stored comic files. Sadly, I am compelled to vote here because - though it still works wonderfully - development of ComicRack seems to have ended, so Iām not sure how much longer it will function
I wouldnāt blame PLEX for not wanting to take on the potential headache of print media (and all its formats), but the popularity of digital comics isnāt diminishing, and the popularity of programs like Calibre speak to the need for a one-stop solution that isnāt out there yet.
I suspect a PLEX solution would turn some heads.

6 years and still not there? Whats up with you guys at Plex?

Donāt you know? They are still locked in the situation room to plan a new strategy to let us use Tidalā¦
Ok guys, seriously, this request comes from 2013, more than 7 years ago, and is even the most wanted, in terms of number of replies. So far not even a hint about its feasibility or the intent to be implemented. Since we all basically have Plex Pass here, donāt you think we deserve at least a feedback? I understand that you arenāt a nonprofit company and you are seeking for money making solutions (and no, Tidal is NOT one of those) but recently you are pushing too hard with not required features; from time to time come back to basic and listen your users who, like myself, love your app, thanks!
Iāve always wanted to see this in Plex but lately this has become an urgency! My growing collection needs a tool to easily handle it.
Unfortunately though I keep noticing updates about Tidal that, from what I can read, were not so urgent for Plex users.
Please do care about our feedbacks and requests!
This feature has been requested since 2013, and guess what, Tidal was founded one year later!
Weāve been wanting to read before Tidal even existed
ebooks! And organized by DDC! My media library is incomplete without my ebooks, Plex! Please make it complete!
I agree, same priority in this same order. I donāt necessarily need to be able to read my book in the Plex app, just give me a place to store and access them.
Please implement this. Every other alternative sucks. Calibre is horrible as a server, and ubooquity is utter garbage.
PLEASE add a comics feature and an agent for Comicvine. Iād hate to go back to MSFT and deploy an instance of Windows just to run Comic Rack (plus Iām sure youād do it better).
I would love if my Plex server could host epub, pdf, cbz files so as I am using my iPad let say in bed; I could read my digital comics that I have stored on the Plex Server where I could add poster art, synopsis of the comic issue.
Hey guys, thereās a heavily wanted feature that no one has yet tackled.
We could be the only ones doing this very much wanted thing, letās ā ā ā ā ā ā ā ignore it.
This is indeed the feature I most await in Plex ā the ability to read printed materials. There are certainly a myriad of other apps to do this (hell, just host the files on a Google drive and open with any reader), but thereās something compelling about continuing to build atop the media center app that hosts everything else I have.
Came here to make my first forum post about this request.
+1 It would be awesome to do something with my ePubs and PDFs.
+1000, Most awaiting feature in the universe.
+1 Books and Comics would be a great addition.
