So, I have not read through every comment on this thread yet, but I am still wondering if there are any plans or if they have created any plugins that will allow you to read books via plex? My dad travels a lot and I would like to be able to give him the ability to have his massive collection of ebooks available to him on any device at any time.
Just wonder what progress if any has been made with this subject?
Absolutely zero progress, of course. Theyāre too busy doing stuff nobody cares about like Tidal integration or working on another app for a dead platform nobody will ever use.

please please please add a pdf reader. Its visual media just like movies, why not be the best media sharing rather than the best at some but not all media types?
Having the ability to share curated libraries across movies/tv, audio, photographs/art, and written medias would be invaluable!
+1 for this request here. Would use it to add pdf album booklets linked in the music folder so could open up the CD insert pdf and browse while listening to music.
It is really amazing that a feature has been requested repeatedly since 2013 (thats 6 freaking years) and Plex has been ignoring it. Talk about customer focused.
Since there is not necessarily a commercial partnership (Tidalā¦) in this type of development, this is surely why the Plex team NEVER responds to this request, which is in the top 3 of the feature requests.

For me not a problem if you need to finance development. You are not a non-profit company!
I understand if you make addons for money, but at least do them!

The easiest feature to code.
Pretty much the only missing piece that keeps Plex from being THE KILLER APP.
If they put in books and audiobooks I would drop money on a lifetime pass like it were hot.

Since itās trivial for Plex devs at this point to add another category, to retrieve metadata from another source, and to add a couple more types of file formats, I feel theyāre just letting a big opportunity get away from them.
Iāve been using calibre-web, but it requires a fair amount of setup, and you have to roll your own SSL.
Why is this not in yet? Has a plugin been released for this?

Plex was meant to be my āIgnoring the DRM age by DIYing my mediaā. The one thing Plex doesnāt do at the moment, is manage my ebook library for my Kobo e-reader.
Sadly, I feel itās more likely Iāll be offered a plugin for a new āfeature I donāt wantā that involves me signing up, at a monthly fee, to a DRM service - that I originally bought a PlexPass to ignore.
The Plex haphazard updates concern me, greatly.

I think it too that this could be a cool feature.
Comic book reader is possible with the ComicReader plugin. But if they remove the plugin support completly it would be bad. epub support is also a good feature I support.
